Oxbridge Law Applicants

What kind of work experience have fellow applicants done? This is specifically law related; there are people from my school who have done a week's worth at Slaughter and May! I have no such contacts to get me to a hugely prestigious firm. What did everyone else do, if any?
Oh, I do so hate to read things like this. Law at Cambridge is taught as an academic endeavour, not a vocational subject - you really shouldn't worry about 'work experience' as such. Of course, I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't have a good feel for how the law actually works in real life, but honestly don't feel that because daddy didn't get you an internship you're at some disadvantage. They want to see strong academic ability, powers of logical thought and an ability to assimilate a large amount of information quickly and to be able to pull out general threads, not an assessment of your social circle.

Best of luck with your application.
