It isn't obvious though is it. The World Cup is the highest honour in the sport.

The CL arguably has the better standard of football but that's about it.
Historically yes, but if you asked a selection of players today what trophy they'd rather win i'm sure most would say CL.

I don't disagree that it needs reformatting though. It's pointless having sides like Zagreb & Ludogorets who just lose every game.

Do you have any evidence to support that claim?
Champions league is every year.

No way. The World Cup is not only the most prestigious prize in football but arguably sport as a whole. It is like the showcase of the immortals. It means much more. Look at the reaction of the Brazilians after they got bummed by Germany in a semi final.

While not from the horse's mouth I think this kind of hints at which one is more important to the pros - http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/27416607

You can replace them with the likes of Spurs and Liverpool but they turn out to be equally pointless.

I agree, I think winning a World Cup would mean much more to a player. It is the absolute pinnacle of the sport.

Plus it's more difficult to win, partly because you get far fewer chances, which makes it even more prestigious.

Measured by the quality of the games and the number of top teams, it is

Champions League > Premier League > UEFA Super League > World Cup > EURO

in my view. With 48 teams at WC 2022, I am afraid this competition gets even worse.

World cup obviously is the most prestigious however the quality of football is definitely worse than the Champions League.
