    Hi there
I've recently applied to Oxford's CompSci course for 2017 and would like to know what current students are using. Right now I have this bulky four-year-old Lenovo laptop (Ideapad Y580) whose HDD is starting to fail. Since the holiday season is approaching, I believe that now's the time to replace it with something shinier that'll last me throughout University. I know that for CompSci pretty much any laptop that isn't a toaster will do the job, but I would still like to see some examples from people who have been in my spot before.

For example, I'm currently eyeing the Dell XPS 13 (13.3" 1080p, Core-i5 7200U, 8gigs of RAM, Ubuntu 16.10). While its portability and battery life are stellar, the price is a bit steep and I wonder the small keyboard will be comfortable to type on for several hours a day.

Any student is free to post here, not just those studying CompSci. If you could also describe how happy you are with your purchase and what you use it for academically, that'd be sweet. :top:

Oxford doesn't place any unique demands on a laptop. You're just going to need it for work, browsing, maybe watching a few movies/playing a few games dependent on you. The laptops part of TSR is probably a better place to read/ask. As are general reviews on e.g. Amazon.
Which accompaniment is best?
