I think most would be wanting people to do fairly well, as they will be marking a subject they themselves teach and so i would think they would mark in favour or the canditate if in doubt.

i hope they mark to the same standard, sure they've had training but as you say under pressure they could marker one paper a few marks higher than another despite same standard e.g in subjects such as History, English, Geography, Media

Mostly the marking is done by 'positive marking', especially for subjects like history and english.

They wouldn't read EVERY single word you wrote. Just skim it and when they see a good 'link' or 'phrase' they give you a nice tick.

They're not monsters - they won't be overly strict because they feel pleasure in the unhappiness of young people.

They've had the appropriate training required and most (in theory) mark to the same standard, which I like to think is the cross between fair and strict.

They give the benefit of the doubt quite a bit, or so I hear :smile:
