The Student Room Group

At Newcastle, ours has lapsed as a society with no members. With the number of students doing dungeons and dragons having fallen, the societies fail to exist.

Exactly what it says on the tin - are there any DnD (dungeons & dragons) socs in unis anymore? My mum said there was loads in her day but I cann't see any on uni websites? Or are they more unofficial or something?

Any help would be great ta! x

I know that UEAs GameSoc is thriving. Sussex's is dominated by Magic: The Gathering players, but you can still get a good board game out of people from time to time. The RPing is a bit thin on the ground, though.

There's a Sussex Gamesoc?

This is taking me back to the days of being 10 or 11 and being well into Warhammer! Wood Elves were the best

I believe some of them have evolved into games/LARPS socs - Lancaster's certainly has and I have heard of others doing the same.

Southampton runs a few DnD games through their GameSoc. I believe there were 3 separate campaigns running last year.

Nive iTalya, soton is my favourite uni to go to anyway! Makes me like it more! To MChem in Soton with glorious DnDing.

The abbreviations are endless.

Hasn't the arrival of computer games kind of killed off board games like D&D and so on?

Reply 8

I think Birmingham has a roleplaying and a wargaming society. I suppose one of those would cover it.

World of Warcraft has done quite a lot of damage, but there's no substitute for sitting round a table with your mates, stuffing your faces with crisps ...

There's a lot at mine, including the Assassin's Guild- you get randomly assigned the name of another player, and have to assassinate them with a variety of humerous yet-harmless weapons, at any time of the day or night.

As someone said the GameSoc at UEA is pretty active and if they dont do DnD actualy at the uni alot of the people that do LARP do it outside.

Although alot of the UEA gamesoc are a bit snobbish and unpleasent, but not all of them.

Reply 13

I think Edinburgh have a Games/LARP soc - heard my flatmate mention it anyway
(I wish my uni had one :frown:)

Reply 14

Dont you think your getting a bit old for it when you start uni

Reply 15

The concept of LARPing seems a bit strange to me, but what ever floats your boat I suppose!

Not really. Uni is the time when you can meet like-minded people, and behave like you're 5 again, and people will just pass it off as "Oh, students  " :p:

Well, the majority of people who do it in the 'real world' are in their thirties, so not so much...

Er no, D&D is really complicated. It's not a kids game.
