Just now I set my fastest 5k run time to date at 23.53, which is by no means an amazing time, but seeing as i've been running for about 3 months exactly from being completly unfit one I am quite proud of. Anyway, I wanted to see how I compared to the other runners of TSR. What are your best times?

Started running about 5 weeks ago, doing 7km in about 38 minutes at the moment, will see what my 5km time is in the next few days.

that's fantastic - do you enter a lot of races? Because you'd be winning a lot. :p:

btw download the song Trying Hard Now from the film rocky and believe me you will beat ur previous best by 2 mins at least, I myself am more of a long distance runner, I always jus feel like running, even a couple of months back there was mad snow here in the midlands i finished asda like 8pm they had to let me go early because the whether was that bad so instead of phoning my mum to pick me up i jogged it in my uniform all the way home, even on university open days to leicester ive felt like jogging it all the way there but my parents dont let me.

At football training we a do a run which is about 3 miles, what I do is I do the course then go all the way back again which is 6 miles but it feels wicked when u see the scenery as u run past id love to do the marthons in berlin, london and new york but you have to get sponsors

5k is about 3.1miles so if you've measured the distance accurately yeah those are brilliant times, you wouldn't be winning any track and field competitons or anything lol but you could easily win some of the smaller 5ks and get the prizes and that. BTW what do you mean you need a sponsor for the london marathon? I know a lot of people run it for charity but there's a ballot you can enter as well and it's like £25 and if you don't get in they give it back.

cool, what marathon are you doing? Did you already have some good base fitness before you started training?

I do 5k in 20 mins 15 seconds...
that is after 8 months of running...which is starting to make me feel i need to push myself more after reading some of the times on this!

20 min 5k is a pretty solid time, it's what I see a lot of the people on coolrunning.com who have been racing for a while aiming for.
What times are people in the olympics getting? I got 16.23 I think that was when I trained for a marathon though.
world record is 12.37

This is a good time for basically anyone. with 5k being about 3 miles....an 18 minute 3 mile run was perfect score for that section of the physical fitness test when i was in the US Marine Corps. I've kind of always gaged based on that. Its a good run time.

i remember doing a 5k fun run in 23 minutes when i was 11. Why are you always a machine when you're a nipper?

Hold on a minute! People say that me getting 15 seconds for 100m is slow saying that I compete, and thats like 3 seconds slower than olympic times, so how can 18 minutes be a good time for marathon runners when olympic times are 14 mins?

Doesn't make sense lol

Beeecause a marathon is not a sprint. A 5km runner could beat a marathon runner quite easily. The marathon runner's in it for the long haul.
I did my first 5km in 18.36 (last week, outside). It felt like I was running really slowly but it turns out I was running quite fast. Only prob was I didn't stretch enough before and ended up with very sore calf muscles for 3 days after dammit. I'm a sprinter by nature and find running anything over 200m a chore! I get so bored!! I'm trying to train to get my fitness back after a lay off and I'm finally managing to run for 20mins without quitting through boredom, particularly in the gym. Anyone got any tips?!
