Doing Computer Science without doing Maths at A-Level?

Do you guys think I'll do okay? Some Uni's offer CS without wanted Maths at A-Level, but the majority do, and I know that a lot of them have different courses etc, but how do you think I'll be considering not done Maths??

(Got a B in GCSE Maths)

Depends on the kind of unis you want to apply to. Oxbridge/Imperial/etc is pretty much out the question unfortunately, but you could still go to some decent universities or even do a foundation year at a better university (like Manchester). What A-levels do you do? I know for example Birmingham want either Maths or Computer Science, so if you do computing you'd be fine there and that's a pretty good uni.
Most universities want mathematics. At the University of Bath I know that in first year, the straight computer scientist have to study "Discrete Mathematics" or something like that. So the course is still somewhat mathematical. Having said that, my boyfriend who studies Computer Science hated maths, but did an IB(I think that is what it is called?) in computing.
I hated maths at GCSE and got a B.
Took up Computing at A level.
Recently applied to Computer Science at Birmingham, Leicester etc. Those universities can accept applicants as long as they have Computing.

The TOP-TOP universities are out of our reach tho.

Unfortuantely for me, I never planned to do CS at Uni until about 2 months ago - so I didnt pick Computing. However, I did pick I.T. Yeah they're not the same, but still both computer technology subjects.

I'm currently doing Biology, Psychology and I.T.

Some Uni's such as Newcastle, Lancaster etc accept CS applications without a Mats A-Level, so I'll definitely be applying to those.

Yeah as others said, the top top unis are out of the question (i.e. Oxbridge, Imperial, UCL). But from what I know, unis like King's College, QMUL, Goldsmiths, Brunel etc. don't require Maths at A-Level (only require GCSE Maths at grade B or above which you have).

I would say that if you haven't got much experience with Maths, you're gonna find a Computer Science degree a bit hard since it's heavily maths-based, but don't take my word for it - make sure to check the module structure of each uni you apply to cos you might end up with one you really enjoy.

So don't worry about it too much, I'm sure there are other Russell Group Unis that don't require Maths at A-Level to do CS.

Alright, good luck with your application.
Hi Hackerman,

At Brunel University London we accept students onto our BSc Computer Science with BBB at A level, and all subjects are considered. You'll need GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C too. In your final year, you'll specialise in artificial intelligence, digital media and games, network computing or software engineering. Brunel’s Computer Science courses are accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, and we offer a professional practice option too.

Take a look at the courses we offer.

If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch. Good luck with your decision!
