hmm.. try ice cream?

Reply 2

Someone's mum swore by hot sweet tea. Works for me every time.

Reply 3

Had ice cream earlier - didn't do anything :frown: I've been having hot Ribena, tea just hurts to be honest.

Reply 4

hmm.. possibly just try normal painkillers then? strange that ice cream hasnt worked!

Reply 5

Did you try it with paracetamol?
Maybe your tea is too hot. I've found that if you have a hot drink then it somehow makes you forget about the pain in your throat and opens it up a bit more, if that makes sense...actually it sounds weird.
How long have you had it for?

have you tried gargling with some salt disolved in a glass of warm water? gross but it always works for me. Or something nicer, a teaspoon of honey and a slice of lemon/splash of lemon juice in a cup of hot water. The honey will sooth your throat and the lemon will give you some vitamin c. Also ive heard that chewing raw onions or garlic can work...

I'm ibuprofened up to the eyeballs. It was actually really sudden - first appeared yesterday morning, now is near unbearable.

I have been gargling with salt water (my mum always makes me) with limited success  I'll try the honey and lemon - cheers orbelina

when i have a sorethroat i take tonnes of vitamin c (in tablet form you dissolve in water) and drink tea with honey. one of the best home remedies i've heard of is cayenne pepper, theres more about it here http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/sore_throat.html

Drink lots and lots.

Water is good. Orange juice is good  That always makes me feel alot better when i have a cold! :p:

Paracetomol, Ibruprofen?

Reply 10

Like I said, I'm on Ibuprofen and have had a good 5 litres of water today :s-smilie: Orange can make it worse apparently... I'm giving strepsils a go.

I had to go to work with a sore throat this week, horrid cos even though i tried to talk, the customers could barely hear me. I had a bottle of diet coke in my lunch break and that helped me, not sure how but it did, also try strepsils or sore throat spray.

ouch, orange juice on a sore throat... that would make it hurt more!

I have been surviving with Difflam Spray for the last couple of weeks whilst suffering from glandular fever. Mine was prescribed by the doctor at the hospital so not sure if you would need to see someone to get it though probably just a pharmacist, but it really helps numb the pain. Also soluble paracetamol seems to work very well for me.

Any kind of fruit juice seems to be a very bad idea with sore throats so avoid.

I don't know about difflam spray, my spray, can't remember what type it is was prescribed for me a couple of years ago when i had pharengitis, but i got it without prescription this time. Just make sure you hit yoru throat and not your tongue, numb tongue is not helpful, my mum once got me some anaesthetic lozenges and although it numbed my throat, i had hell cos my tongue kept going numb.

Reply 15

Hot ribena has been about the best remedy so far surprisingly

Reply 16

Strenfen by Strepsils, they're white and taste like vanilla but they're loaded with anaesthetic and always work for me, even when I have tonsilitis.

Reply 17

Oraldene Mouthwash
Hot lemon water stuff...

Not sure about this but food with leek in, supposed to be good for you..
well helps me when im ill :s-smilie:

Maybe sleep more?

Reply 18

Perhaps avoid dairy and citrus.

Try gargling with salt water or diluted Tcp, though make sure it isn't too strong.

haha - i had exactly the same problem - felt like I had a fat tongue all the time, and I'm sure I wasn't pronouncing my words properly!

I agree that the lozenges are worse than the spray - stick with spray and aim well!

Hope you get better soon (hugs)
