Personal statement help - capitalising?

In my personal statement, I write physical chemistry and quantum mechanics.

Do they have to be capitalised: Physical Chemistry and Quantum Mechanics or should they be as I have written them above, without capitalisation?

Thank you
I would say only capitalise them if you are referring to a degree or module title, but not if you are just talking about a general area of knowledge. For example:

I really like the look of your module on Quantum Mechanics

I particularly enjoy learning about quantum mechanics

No. You are correct, and ignore any teacher who tells you different. You are talking about subjects (which are common nouns), not courses, and courses are only proper nouns if you use the full title which is wasteful of space and poor style (e.g. "BSc Physical Chemistry with Mathematics").
