How easy is it to give up alcohol

I can't remember a time since i was 17 that i didn't get drunk on a night out, obviously this isn't good generally, but when i get drunk i do stupid things, most stupid of all i have on occasion cheated on my boyfriend, I really wanna stop and i think the only way i can stop is if i stop drinking. How easy is it to give up alcohol and for someone who is so used to drink-fuelled nights is it easy to have as much fun sober especially when all your freinds are wasted?

Go to the States for 2 months on Camp America like i did, the drinking age is 21 and if like me you are under this, you cannot drink no matter what you try.

Now i am completely off drinking, it does not phase me. I learnt to dance drunkenly on coke.

I've given up, and haven't drunk any alcohol for over a week now. It is hard, but I'm sure it's worth it.

|<---------------->| This easy.

How do you expect us to answer? Depends on your willpower and determination, and how addicted you are.

EDIT: Just noticed the OP accidentally revealed their identity, so I am deleting my post in respect of that.

if you only drink on nights out that you are not addicted at all and could give up very easily without any physical symptoms.. if you drink at home on your own when you are bored then it would probably not be as easy...

but as you are probably only young why stop drinking??? when you go out with your friends why should you not have a few drinks??

I know i'm not addicted, but on a night out a few drinks can easily turn into a lot of drinks and that's when the problem appears.

Giving up drinking depends on whom or where you do it. It can be hard to go sober on a night out with the lads in bars and clubs, but easy to stick to a j2o mmm tasty) at a quit evening at the pub.

You can't help drinking more than you planned and you can't help cheating on your boyfriend = lack of will power. Get some life goals and try and achieve them.

I'm stopping drinking for the time being. :\ I'm not finding it too difficult, but I haven't been out/to any parties since I've stopped.

I'm giving up drinking for the time being...as long as I see necessary I think. Hopefully It will last a good 5/6 months. Don't think I'll give it up forever. I've onlt given up for 6 days lol and haven't been out during that time so it hasn't meant anything but will be harder when I do :p:

I'm not an alcoholic but i'm like this;

I've got far to drunk one too many times, and although I don't do anything horrendous or really regretful whilst drunk. I've done the usual...sick, forget everything, spent a whole night 'flirting' with a teacher at prom and ending up at his house til 4am which his girlfriend (another teacher) and my dad weren't very happy about.

I just figured I'd give going out sober a go for a while, twill help me with my studies and will save me moneys :p:

it will also keep my dada happy, who used to be an alcoholic, but is teetotal now so hates alcohol and my half brother committed suicide this year after drinking lots of alcohol so it is understandable why my Dad hates me drinking. i'll give him a worry free few months (he's very overprotective) and then maybe when I start drinking again, I won't get 'wasted' as I won't feel the need.

Why don't you start drinking non-alcoholic beer and/or wine. It's a little more expensive but it tastes just like the real stuff and you don't get drunk.

when you go out, take your car... its motivation enough to not drink.

when im short of money and cant afford to drink but i still want to socialise i always take my car, then theres not the temptation of going to the bank and withdrawing that tenner that i need to keep, cos i know i cant drink.

and btw i still have fun when my mates are drunk and im not, i usually just spend the night humouring them, gathered it isnt as much fun as being wasted with them, but its still better than sitting home miserable that all ur mates are out and you cant afford to join them.

although this all depends whether ud be the person to drink and drive or not, cos if u wud drink and drive definately dont do this, then ull just drink anyways and kill yourself or someone else.

for this to work for you, you need to break the assosciation of alcohol with fun, if your in the opinion that you can only have a good night when youve been drinking then giving up will never work.

You can try, but you will fail miserably and get chucked out. They are so strict on it in the clubs and bars out there it is unreal! Plus the bouncers are all big black men who are ex-coppers and they scared me, alot :redface:

You will not get served alcohol if you are below 21, and you will be asked for ID if you are under 30.

Obviously you can go to Target and buy a load of alcohol and bring it home and drink it there, but drinking out is a problem if you are under 21. Trust me, i just spent 2 and bit months there doing my hardest to do so!

How long is a piece of string? It completely depends on your social circle and what you get up to in your free time. I hardly drink, but I never have really so it doesn't bother me when I don't have any alcohol for a while.

Are you an alcoholic? If not, then you should find it easy. How about choosing to drinking in moderation. Tell yourself you'll have no more than two or three alcoholic beverages in a night and stick to it. It doesn't have to be between having no alcohol and being a binge drinking mess
