Chances of getting preferred accommodation...

Hey all!

I sent off my accommodation form on monday with a first class stamp so it hopefully should have reached by tuesday morning...do you think my chances of getting the room I really want (I'm desperate for an en-suite!!) are really slim now because I didn't send it off straight away? :s-smilie: I'm worried, I'll get a really crappy room which won't be very helpful because I'm a person that really enjoys home comforts and wanted somewhere comfortable to live, especially as I'll be far from home! How long do you have to wait before you receive a response from uni? :frown:

What hall imparticular did you apply for? If you went for john foster you may well be out of luck as according to other students who have phoned up- its full!

From talk on facebook it seems alot of people sent their forms back on results day, or friday via special delivery, so they will have prioity over forms arriving afterwards.
To be honest, I dont think you stand a very good chance at ensuite, but I dont think you will end up in an awful room.
I wanted an en-suite at john foster...:frown:

My chances really are slim!! Grrr...I got stuck out in India where I've been all summer and didn't get back until monday! :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:

Just keep your fingers crossed you never know. Im sure you will have a great time no matter what
Lots of people now seem to have had their forms returned to them and have been allocated a room, so if your form is only just arriving dont get your hopes up. But like I said you never know, there are lots of ensuites therese still a chance! good luck.
well we had a few empty rooms in ensuite in gilbert murray last year so you mite be able to get one of them if new hall is full!

Go to the accomodation office a few days in and ask for a transfer to John Foster, make an excuse and you'll be added to the list. Go every day or so to speed the process along, there's always no shows so there's always spare rooms.
Thanks for the advice guys, and if worse comes to worse I will try that Pav. However, I've heard from countless that it's not really about WHERE you end up living but WHO that makes your life at uni worthwhile. And I know pretty much most of leicester's halls aren't complete hell holes so things should be okay. If I don't manage to get an ensuite, I feel sorry for my future flatmates who will have to deal with someone who takes agggeeess in the bathroom! :p:

Aww, i know what you mean, i really want an ensuite in John Foster hall too! You are right though, it isn't where you are in Uni, it's the people that you're with that make the experience. If the people are nice that you're with, you'll love it!! No matter where you are. I think all of us who want ensuites are just too use to our home-ly comforts! Just wait and see now, they always say things happen for a reason! All the best of luck anyway
Day 8....still waiting for a reply from leicester accommodation. Is hoping the letter isn't floating around a sorting office in Kettering or hasn't fallen off the back of postman pat's van.....

Thanks lottie12! I wanted an en-suite for hygiene reasons aswell as saving my other flatmates from a lot of hassle! You never know...we could end up in the same flat together! Keep your fingers and toes crossed for us! xXx
They gave me a shared room but I'm not accepting it. I'm going to defer my entry to next year then I should get the room I actually asked for.

Thats a shame :frown:
I dont blame you though, thats what I would have done aswell.
Atleast you will have the first pick next year though.

For what its worth, the shared rooms are ****ing huge, and in the manor houses so in awesome settings. Having said that I wouldn't have gone in one either. The people I knew who were in them were all Americans as I remember. Had some good times in them

I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you :frown: That's a shame. But yeah, i can understand why you wouldn't want to be in a shared room. Did you try ringing the accomodation office to see if they had anything else? It might be worth a go
I'm going to ring them tomorrow. I'm glad you guys understand why I wouldn't want to be in a shared room...I know nothing of this person. They could be fantastic but how am I ever going to be comfortable if I can never get any privacy! Apparently there;s a transfer list I can go on and they'll let me know when something becomes available. I think in the meantime I'm going to be staying with my friend if she'll have me! She has a double bed this year! I reckon I'll be cooking us dinner every night for freshers week!

maybe the other guy is thinking 100% the same, and he decides to pul out too, den ud both be roomles wid a big clear empty room floating around wid no1 to occupy it, how ironic...even tragic would that be...:frown:

Yeah, i think you should try and see if you can get somewhere else! There must still be other places available!!
It'd be horrible waiting a whole year just to get a different room (though i can 100% understand).. i couldn't stand the waiting! Then again, that could just be me.
Then Bangbabe I would obviously have the room...especially if it would just be me on my own! That's all I'm asking for...

Lottie...have you received your reply yet? If you don't mind me asking, when did you send back the accommodation form?
Just read what you wrote lottie...all the accommodation office have said to me is that there is nothing but shared rooms left. I sent my form back on the monday after results, which means they must have had it by tuesday...in my opinion that's not very late which is why I can't understand why I haven't even been offered a single room. It's ridiculous...do they have such a limited amount of halls or something?

I sent mine back on the Friday with recorded delievery to make sure it got there by Saturday. And i didn't get mine back till last Wednesday (29th Sept) so i would assume that since you received yours on the 30th, they would have had rooms other than shared. As mine is ensuite in New Hall and came only a day earlier...

I was looking on facebook the other day and there was so many people who sent theirs off on the Thursday.. I'm afraid to say it, but i think you've just been really unlucky :frown: I think they must have given you a shared room and then by the time you actually received the letter, there were no single rooms left.

I think the only thing to do is to keep bugging them about it, as not everyone will end up going, therefore you can get their room! I know it must be a faff and horrible for you, as uni is meant to be an exciting experience and it must be really annoying :frown: But don't worry, it will get sorted in the end.
there's no sortage of accomodation. last year there were empty rooms in most halls so it really is unlucky that you ended up in a shared room. I'm sure once you get to leicester there would be an oppurtunity to change as i know quiet a few people that moved accomodation in the 1st few weeks of term.
