Darwin College

I applied for Tyler Court at the University of Kent but I've been offered an accomodation in Darwin College(i think its single):frown: :frown: . Therefore I might just accept it as it'll be hard to get a place in Tyler court anyway. For those who are already living in Darwin College or been in there, could you please tell me how good is the quality of accomodation in there? ie condition of the kitchen? is the corridor narrow? is the bathroom clean?

Thank you very much:biggrin:
Please help me .

ie condition of the kitchen? - I have a pic of a Darwin kitchen but it's on my other PC - if you want it, I can find it for you. They were new last year and have a big table and 2 cookers/sets of hobs, and 2 fridge/freezers - but are shared between 10 (Darwin corridors and shared between 5, so the kitchen is shared by 2 corridors).
is the corridor narrow? Cosy and clean
is the bathroom clean? Cleaned every week.

thanks a lot for the information:smile: -just one more question -do students who live in darwin college have to move out all personal belongings during christmas and easter holidays?

Not at Christmas (although you're not allowed to stay there anyway), but at Easter, yes you do have to move out all your belongings. I believe it's for exchange students or similar.

9-month continuous agreement from September. Residents may stay in their rooms during the Christmas and Easter vacations.

according to that we can stay with belongings

I got offered a place in Darwin college so I wouldn't mind seeing that pic of the kitchen

What about a picture of the rooms or the toilet?? I applied for En suite in tyler court but now I'm going to have to share a bathroom I want them to be nice! I had a look around some of my local uni accomodation to get an idea and the showers and toilets were basically like you'd get in a not very nice shopping centre or something, and there were cobwebs and icky stuff all ova :-( So now I'm worried! I saw the toilets in park wood, is it similar to that?? And I don't seem to be able to get any pics of the rooms on the Kent website either.
Ooo and sorry to type loads but I may be moving to Darwin Houses. What are these like? Are they nicer/newer? And are they close to Darwin college?
xx

Darwin House are self-catered and right next to Darwin College surrounding a rose garden. They are very long and thin with a kitchen and one or two bathrooms.
I didn't stay in Darwin but just to warn you, the rooms and toilet are nothing to shout about. I will get that pic of a kitchen once I leave work  oh and the Darwin showers are really nice, I personally don't think Darwin is bad at all.

darwin college should be good then. althought its not the best accomodation around but i heard that they have great community spirit with all the facilities near the college

ONE THING THAT EVERYONE HAS FORGOTTEN TO TELL YOU ALL IS THAT DARWIN HAS BEEN COMPLETELY GUTTED THIS YEAR AND BY THE TIME YOU GET HERE IN SEPTEMBER EVERY ROOM WILL BE BRAND SPANKING NEW AND ALL WITH INTERNET CONNECTIONS!

is that darwin houses and/or college?

also, thanks for the pics, it looks pretty decent - don't even mind the pink decor :X

There seems to be a **** load of cupboards, isn't there only 5-6 sharing each kitchen?

that would be the college rooms that have been redeveloped, the site is a bit of a mess at the moment with contractors but will all look sparkly when you arrive....will be a lot different from when i was living in there 3 years ago.

It's 10 sharing a kitchen x

Imagine viewing from the side;

4th floor flat
Kitchen
3rd Floor flat
Main corridor
2nd Floor flat
Kitchen
1st Floor flat (i.e. ground floor)

Kinda staggered over levels with stairs. Each flat has 5 rooms, a toilet and seperate shower. So 4th&3rd floor share a kitchen etc.

and I take it "N2-2 Darwin College"

is second floor?

Reply 17

That's right  so from the main corridor you look for block N and have to go down a few steps to get to it.

So does that mean Darwin House wont be as nice? Coz thats where I am  Also I read somewhere (forgot where) that Darwin House has superior rooms...so does that mean they're bigger?
And were those kitchens college or house? Why does there have to be two its sooo confusing!!! xxxx

The houses are houses, no blocks! The kitchens are totally different than in the college. I personally think that Darwin houses are the 2nd best accomm on campus, the rooms are bigger than standard and are of a better, er, standard.
