What does one wear clubbing?

I am not someone who likes to go to loud places with lots of people, plus all the clubs round were I live are very cheap and the people you don't want to meet go there. A quite pub with 5 of my best mates will suffice, I prefer it that way. Anyway it is an acquaintances birthday this weekend and we are going out to a few clubs, but I don't know what to wear! I'm going to wear jeans, but shall I wear heels or not? I bought a top from Topshop with very little back and drum kits on the front, and what bag shall I take. I'm one of those girls who loves big bags, I can fit everything I ever need in them ...

So ignore my ramble ... what do you normally wear out?

Depends - jeans, heels (I'm rather short) and a fancy-ish top. Or just jeans, heels and a tee (but I tend to end up at metal-head places, so I don't need to be overly presentable - as long as one has big hair...)

i would say that what you got would be fine, i tend to wear jeans, a dressyish top and heels as they look that little bit smarter, however if your more comfortable wearing flats then i would wear them you don't want your feet to be hurting all night! witht the bag i would go for a smaller one, you don't really need to take that much if your going out, just take the essentials

At a dance club I tend to wear a smart/party-ish top, then a denim skirt with cropped leggings and pumps.

I get really hot at clubs if I dance, hence the skirt and strappy top, but the leggings make me feel less exposed as you don't want too much skin on show.

At rock/indie clubs I tend to wear skinny jeans and a casual top. Depends on the type of club

...It's always flats for me though. My feet aren't used to heels!

With the bag, as jessi said, take the essentials... a big bag is awkward to stand around with, and may hurt your shoulder if you wear it all night. Though saying that, if you need lots of things with you for before/after, take a big bag and put it in the cloakroom (usually costs about £1-£2 to put a coat and bag in there), then just keep your ID, money and phone on your person in a smaller bag.

Depends what type of clothes you are accustomed to, and the type of club. Generally I like wearing a bandeau type dress and high heels, or miniskirt and pretty top, skinny jeans, well anything that looks different.

I tend to wear a fancy skirt/tight shorts, a nice top & heels. Funny thing is I only wear heels when I'm clubbing bt I find them more comfy than flats when I'm dancing. Only take a small bag wiv a short strap (or put it in the cloakroom) otherwise it may be awkward to dance with...

Depends where you are going. I go to a lot of electro clubs, where I'll wear highwaisted shorts with heels & a vintage shirt, so that if I fall over through being an intoxicated mess, I won't show my knickers.

If I'm at a different club (say indie) I wear a nice dress and heels. I usually fall over due to substances on the floor and in my system anyway, but I wear tights & indie clubs don't seem to have as many crazy lights going on, so it's harder to see.

I wear a variety of things... From skirts to jeans, to strappy top or floaty tops.

I always take a small bag out, because what else do you need apart from mobile, purse and door key? (I don't take make-up out with me..)

Shoes - if I'm wearing jeans, I wear my black boots. But if I'm wearing a skirt, I wear black strappy shoes or slip-on heeled shoes.

I'd recommend a denim skirt, if you aren't skirt-phobic like me. From there, you can dress it up or down, depending on what club you're going to. Personally, I go for shorts. For some reason, I hate skirts, but I'll happily wear mini-shorts (not quite hotpants). Tailored shorts are nice, and they can be dressed up or down as well. I'd wear skinny jeans to a club, but not really any other sort of cut, as I wouldn't feel dressy enough.

For tops, anything that shows a bit of skin would be fine, but you can wear normal t-shirts and stuff. I'm not 18 yet, so I have to make more of an effort for them to let me in, so I tend to wear strappy tops and patterned things. Friends who are over 18 can get away with dresing down a lot, as they can risk being ID'd.

As for shoes; wear what you're comfortable in. Yeah, everyone else might be wearing heels, but if you can't cope with them then DON'T DO IT. I personally hate heels, they hurt my feet in about ten minutes. I can't tolerate them, so I opt for flat shoes, or kitten heels. Be careful wearing ballet pump style shoes though, as they are very susceptible to being pierced with glass. The first time I went out I wore flats and a stray shard of glass ripped through the toe into the side of my foot. That was a really trashy/scummy club, but be warned. Also, if its a more 'alternative' (ie scummy) club, don't wear shoes you value. my pump got so dirty they've never looked good since :frown:

As for bags, just take a small clutch. I had a nice black one from New Look that had a bracelet attachement, so I didnt have to carry it on my shoulder or in my hand all night. Small shoulder bags are good as well. Don't take anything bigger than clutch-size though, as it'll annoy you if you're dancing, and you're more likely to put it down and forget it. All you really need to take with you are door keys, purse and mobile. Possibly a lipstick, but most people never bother reapplying make up on a night out, even if they bring it with them.

I bought this gorgeous blue dress from Oasis. It's like this http://www.catwalkqueen.tv/2007/04/frock_horror_of_31.html

Haha love the snide comments but would anyone wear it clubbing? I haven't found an occasion yet. But is it no-no for a night out? Heels obv...

i wear a short skirt and pretty top with heels. i get really hot when im dancing in a club, hence i never wear trousers, and also i find it odd to dance when not wearing heels. il normally take a pashmina as well to wrap up with when going there and back, saves on paying cloakroom for a jacket as i just tie it round my bag strap once im inside.

be careful with that bag though. you want to be able to dance with the bag you take, but also don't want to lose it or have anything drop out/get stolen from it. I find it best to put everything you can into your front pockets, but that's normally not an option if you want to take your mobile phone (unless you have a very cool slim one).
I don't always wear heels. If you aren't used to wearing heels, then take a bag that is big enough to put some flip flops in. That way you can just take off your heels and wear those when they start to hurt and you'll avoid looking like an idiot and walking home barefoot.
I'm not the best person to ask about clubbing fashion though. I'd just wear a nice top.
