Is KY Jelly easy to find...?

Lol well pads are kinda like nappies I guess. It's just the thing my mum taught me when I was 11 and since it's served me well I just hadn't bothered to change from pads to tampons. I have considered it for a few years by now though. I hear it's way more comfortable than pads  Let's hope so!

boots do it, morrisons, sainsburys, asda, all the shops really. not dear either..

If you think you can get medium ones in, it's fine to try, but be aware it might be a bit more difficult. I really doubt you will leak, as most people's flow slows down/stops in cold water anyway.

As for measuring flow, if you're only changing every couple of hours, it's not super-heavy. If you're really paranoid about leakage, put a new one in just before you go swimming and change when you get out.

Oh, your flow stops in cold water? Why?

In that case, I shall buy small and medium both then and I can use the small before I swim and the medium when I get in the pool perhaps

not sure but its true, tends to stop in any water not just cold, baths they slow down loads, and yeah its a good idea there.

Yes I think most chemists sell it.
Pads are dis-GUS-ting! When its heavy and you sit down you're sitting in your own filth! You can feel it squelching beneath you, and when you have a wee youre constantly reminded of it. I also find it degrading wearing what is effectively a nappy cause you cant control the fluid emerging from your doodad, like a baby :s-smilie:

I wouldnt flush them they are likely to block the toilet and cause high embarrassment when the plumber comes! I think non-applicators are easier to put in, cause the edge of the applicator feels horrible when it goes in, its quite hard to describe

Only if you have really dodgy plumbing. In most cases it's fine to flush them.

lol i wear them becuase i dont even have enough blood a month to change my pad once lol :P so i dont really need tampons.

Im not sure KY jelly would be such a good idea... wouldnt the tampon soak it up i.e. you would need to change your tampon quite soon after you use it :s-smilie:

No ky jelly is recommended for first time users, we were told that in sex ed... all those years ago lol. it doesnt soak up the tampon, its fine, i always used it until i got used to putting them in (i dont use them anymore but still)

Reply 28

Really? I never heard it myself! Oh well, use KY jelly then :p:

Wear them a few times before you go swimming so you can figure out what absorbency you'll need

Not sure I have the time to try out on what day I need what size :s-smilie: I imagine when I see the entire tampon soaked to the core, it's probably time for a larger size?

Well I don't think of it as "I can't control my fluids" lol - it's just, well, a period. I do agree with everything else you've said though! But the idea of looking at a blood-soaked tampon doesn't appeal much but it can't be worse than pads, eh? I've got so used to pads that I'm just indifferent to used pads now (my own only, of course) and I just get rid of them as quickly as possible.

I could go on but I'm sure the general public doesn't want graphic details and the women out there will already know anyway lol :p:

Here you go!

The one piece of advice I would add from my own experience, is to make sure the applicator is in far enough otherwise the tampon won't go in properly.

i had that same experience...not good.
it took me a while to start using them, but when i did i found them so easy and havent looked back hehe...just relax and take your time, you'll be fine

yeah they just get really big and you can just tell you need to change em

Can I start practising insertion before my period starts btw? I know you can get toxic-shock, is it, if it stays in for too long. Is it healthy to have a tampon inside you when you're not on your period, just for an hour or so, or like, 30min? Or do I not need such practise and should just use it when my period starts?

Reply 35

you can practise if you want to I suppose... but use the KY jelly so it makes it easier, otherwise it might not be as easy to take out as if you were on your period!

yeah you could but you wouldnt be able to see what size you need due to lack of blood, but you might want to try, get a mirror too so you can see wha your doing lol, otherwise it gets confusing

Reply 37

Also if at first you dont suceed try try again! (You prob wont be able to do it first time, just keep at it)

Reply 38

Yep I'd get some lube if you want to try it before your period, to replace the 'moisture' you'd get from the blood

I've flushed tampons down the toilet for years now....maybe I should stop. But everything has always gone fine with me, nor has the toilet ever blocked up.

Perhaps we just have a really good toilet, perhaps my parents foresaw this, or perhaps it's actually ok.
