Oxford rejects

With Oxford interviews and rejections going out/ having gone out, I thought it'd be nice to open a thread for us to talk about all the other unis we're excited to be applying to  I knew my application to Oxford was a long shot and the rejection wasn't surprising but nevertheless disappointing :/

I got my rejection last week and I was absolutely gutted. Trying not to think about it though and instead focusing my attention on the University of Bath 😊

Psychology, and The Guardian league tables actually rate Bath higher than Oxford for it so I suppose there's a silver lining 😊
Yeh, oxford isn't the only good uni. Good luck for bath πŸ›€

I'm a student from Germany applying for History of Art, my chances of getting into my chosen unis (Edinburgh, St Andrews, the Courtauld and UCL) are quite slim but I thought I'd give it a go nonetheless and see how it all works out

Hi there!
Edinburgh would be a dream...What are you applying for?
I could also imagine reapplying depending on how all of this works out this year... Whatever happens, all of this was a good learning experience nonetheless.

politics and philosophy - wbu? ive heard though that Scottish nationals and EU citizens have tougher competition due to limited places :/ which basically means I'm ****ed bc my predicted German Abitur grades are one point below the typical offer :frown: it would be just amazing though, I absolutely love the city and tuition fees are so much lower!
yeah whether ill reapply depends on whether my final grades exceed predictions and, more importantly, the political situation in the UK by that time next year... I cant afford paying international student fees for uni at all... What course did you apply for in oxford?

I applied for History of Art which is one of the most competitive courses to get into even by Oxford standards (it made me feel better about the rejection haha πŸ˜…)
Yeah I've been researching a lot lately and the statistics for us EU students pertaining to Scottish schools don't look like they're in our favor πŸ˜• But hey, who knows... where else have you applied to besides Edinburgh?

ohhh, just seen that you're German too, what grades/ predictions are you applying with? I applied to PPE which was always gonna be a long shot haha but still a bit annoying :/ I also got offers from York and Manchester and still waiting for Bristol... Kind of regret applying to these unis, even though I couldn't have afforded any London uni anyway  where else did you apply?

I'm predicted a 1.1, kinda regret not putting in more work at school because I don't think I'd be able to get a 1.0 anymore but oh well...
Yeah I specifically chose all my unis to be ambitious, if I don't get in anywhere I'll probably just stay in Germany πŸ˜…
Still waiting for replies from the Courtauld (a specialist institution for HoA in London) UCL, Edinburgh and St A 😁

Well a 1.1 is really good! I got predicted a 1.2 and i wonder whether getting a 1.0 predicted would have secured me an interview at oxford haha it wouldn't even have been too unrealistic  and where in Germany do you wanna apply? I'm definitely going to the UK, though we'll see if next year or the year after  how come you wanna go to uni in the UK?

I was actually born in the US i.e. English is my mother tongue so I've always known I've wanted to study in an English speaking country 😊 yeah who knows about Oxford... I think there are so many little things that factor into it including PS, additional essays etc. But from the get go we had a disadvantage, when I was researching Oxbridge they specifically stated that one has lower chances of getting in if one's country has a quite general curriculum which is of course the case with Germany) so you know whatever πŸ˜…

I'm thinking about the typical choices Heidelberg, Munich, Berlin πŸ˜„ But I haven't really seriously looked into anything yet because I still have some hope about the UK 😁

Why do you want to go to the UK? 😊
