The Student Room Group

somethings just really annoyed me

ok its no big deal but there are a lot of unimportant threads on here, anyway there has just been a quite old film on TV with a dad hitting and beating the hell out of his daughter and my dad came standing in the living room to watch and started laughing saying 'hes had enough of her, thats what happens'. Fair enough but he found it so funny but the thing is he did the same to me a year ago and chucked me around the room hitting me on the head because I wouldn't sign on for job seekers allowance and Ive not spoke to him since so im wondering if thats why he found it so funny? Or was it just the fim and im being stupid do you think?

Still it just really annoyed me.

I know sometimes it's hard to 'hate' a parent, or cut them out, but it sounds as if your dad isn't a very nice man. If he had never hurt you, then laughed at this film, i'd say he was just being a bit thoughtless and thinking 'it's just a film', but he HAS done that to you and there really is NO excuse for hitting your child unless it is in self defence when you are both adults.

Has he done anything like that since last year? If so, you need to either a) get as far away from him as possible or b) report him and/or get him to consider getting some 'help'.

Has he ever shown remorse?

He is not a bad man just immature really, hes the type that would beat chavs up if they threw stones, he wouldn't dare touch my mum im the only women he has ever hit my mum says. Im not bad its just when he called me a thick bitch for not going to the job centre I got mad and called him a ******* and he dragged me around the room hitting me telling me that if I ever call him again he'l bang me one and I'l not know where I am lol.

No, it's not 'lol', that behaviour's not on. Nothing should give you the right to beat your child senseless and then find it amusing.

Did you report it when it happened? Or did you just leave it and let it be?

Totally agree with this. OP, please dont think that its ok for ANYONE to treat you like this, and most definately not a parent, who should be there to protect you.

Has no one here been hit by a parent? I didn't report it as I thought he was in the right as I shouldn't have been awkward and called him a b******. Ive not spoke to him since anyway but I hate it when friends or anyone come round and he asks me a question and I don't answer. They think its me being petty and immature.

But there's 'hit' and there's 'thrown around the living room', as you said it.

well yea and dragged across the floor, so im not being petty for not speaking to him even though my parents support me financially?

Reply 10

Of course not! I'm sure that's abuse, or assault at the very least.

He should be able to support himself , without any help from his pareents or you , basically go out looking for work so he can be supportive to his family!

I find that chilling. I might be wrong but I think he said that to justify what he did and possibly to warn you.

I don't know how old you are but to strike a child is one thing but to drag you around a room hitting you on the head is another.

By law if you touch someone without there permission its assault.
