I am in my second year of BTEC level 3 extended diploma in equine management (similar modules to animal science BTEC) but I've had a complete change of heart, I really want to be a dental hygienist... I'd love to go to the university of Essex. I have good GCSEs and I'm in line for full distinction/distinction*s for my course but as its so different i wasn't sure if it was any use applying...
Would quitting my course and starting a dental nurse apprenticeship help, I'm really not sure what to do
Thank you x

Just had a check for you, but Essex doesn't offer Dental Hygiene, unless I'm mistaken? They do offer Oral Health Science, which will allow you to become a dental therapist, but you will have to be a qualified hygienist first.

However, if you are planning to get into hygiene, a switch to a dental nursing course (which is GDC recognised) as soon as possible is probably best. For a few universities offering dental hygiene/therapy, they will accept it as a substitute for an A Level.

All the best, let me know if you need any more help c:

Sorry yes oral health science was what I meant, I did think the 2 year was to become a hygienist and the top on was a therapist, can tell I have no idea haha!
Thank you very much, off to research a little further !
