Gately, what's it sayin

hi I'm new, and yes that is my government name

so, I see there is no thread for gately and was wondering who stayed there and get their opinions. My 1st choice was montefiore but obviously that is pretty oversubscribed this year, so I dont mind being in archers road personally.

Is it any different to romero, as I have only heard good feedback from people staying there, and seeing as they are opposite each other (are they lol?) i assumed theyre pretty similar halls.

oh yeh, I'm doing civil engineering BEng also i forgot to mention

thanks

Gateley has bigger kitchens!

But you have to use Romero's laundry. Haha.

Not quite opposite.. like 100 metres apart.

ah ok. How would you say somewhere like gately compares to monte, I assume there isn't much going on relative to somewhere like there or glen eyre right?

also, is it me or do I get the slight feeling that gateley is relativley in the middle of nowhere compared to other halls? lmao, whatever though I am sure I will meet some good friends there, please other people staying in gateley come and introduce yourselves, or if possible someone point me in the direction of a facebook group still, thanks

Gateley has the halls manager office in it - used to be better for parcels.

They both have common rooms, but Romero's is bigger (Gateley's used to be posher, but they might have refurbed Romero by now  ).

All parcels I had delivered to Romero (except one special delivery) were taken to Gateley. Even so the royal mail sorting office is in Shirley approx 1 mile away, so not a ridiculous walk.

Gateley is NOT in the middle of nowhere! It's in a residential area 15 mins from town! and 5 minutes from all the Bedford Place bars!

I had a mate in Gateley last year - and I thought her kitchen was as big as ours (Monte 4), so in general they were bigger than most of the kitchens in Monte!

But saying same as Talya - It's much closer to town then Glen and Wessex (they're more like 20-30mins bus ride away)- so you've got a pretty good advantage

Cool thanks for the replies, I'm just curious.

What's the standard of rooms compared to Monte 3/4 and places like south hill which I have heard are nice, I don't want to sound like a snob because I'm far from it but I really hate staying in Butlins-type (yeah you all know) of accommodation it feels dirty. Also because I need a well clinical environment to study in or it does my head in. Thanks.

If you wanted clinical you should have picked Chancellor Courts!

Romero/Gateley are only 10 years old so still in good nick.

lol it's not exactly like 2000 other students aren't choosing chancellors courts though is it  was actually my 2nd choice after monte, but 2nd choice for chancellors ain't gona cut it from what I've heard. allow it though, I personally consider myself lucky to get into uni in the 1st place, especially southampton which is an absolutely sick university

Gately are actually really good halls. most of my mates came from it! really good kitchens and all are unsuite i think? good corridors as well for cricket! Its not that close to the man uni but it is close to the centre of town and to london road where a lot of oubs are! I was in connaught which was basically the opposite with tiny kitchens but massive rooms and no unsuite but lots of facilities. that is 1 bad thing about gately and the archers road halls, it has no bar but people treat the archers road pub, just opposite the halls as the halls abr and its ok! I think u r def better in gately than monte. monte is rubbish, no1 knows each other apart from if u live in the same corridor as them! Gately is small enough that a lot of people all know each other!
