Tea Tree Oil - Yes? No?

I was using Clearasil in my skin, it wasn't really doing much...but i looked a little better. Then i bought that "new formula" Clearasil stuff and it sorta burned me, i'm not the only one either...and it actually dyed the front of my hair!! It looks like i have some bad highlights, but it's not obvious though.

I've heard lots of bad things about Clearasil lately, i guess it's another one of those brand named products which purely sells because of the name - it's ****. I also heard it just burns skin away, including your tan...and i do look paler lately :frown:

I was recommended Tea tree oil by somebody on here, i used Superdrugs facial was stuff, followed by some tea tree moisturiser. Had this for about a week and i'm feeling more spottier!

My ex-gf modelled for a makeup school a few days ago and they told her tea tree oil dries out your skin so much that your body frantically tries to make the oil to make up for it, so you may get spottier. But i'm not sure if the superdrug moisturiser stops this from happening?

Anyways, advice please...it's not much to ask for...just want clear skin. A Bentley would be nice too, but i'll settle for the skin!

tea tree oil works brilliantly... but it really shouldnt be used straight on the skin! it is strong stuff!

Try decanting it into a bigger bottle and water it down, 1 part tea tree to 2 parts boiled (but not hot) water... and use pure tea tree, not blended with a load of crap! chemicals are never going to improve your skin...

I have used tea tree oil and it made my skin sooooo much worse it was unbelievable so I went back to the clearasil quinoderm combination mixed with overdrying the skin

I don't use any of the products they advertise. Soap and water and a weekly face pack. I have never had a problem with spots.

Clearasil has actually worked really well for me, I guess it just depends on your skin type

Tea tree oil is really good too, if I ever get the odd break out then I always use it and it seems to get rid of the inflammation and prevent it from getting worse

I think tea tree oil is only used sparingly when you have a spot....so you dab it on that spot

Clearasil; Clean and Clear, Neutrogena, OXY etc are all rubbish. Don't do it.

Tea tree oil isn't magic but it will help when dabbed on individual spots. Superdrug sells the pure type and the diluted type - make sure you get the ready-diluted kind as it's not meant to be used undiluted (the pure type they sell is intended to be blended yourself, so it might be intended for professionals).

I personally find the Seaweed range from Body Shop works quite well.

As far as I can tell, Tea Tree Oil does more harm than good, but maybe it depends on skin type. Honestly, the stuff you can get from Wilkinson seems to work better than most of the big names. Sounds unbelievable, and it isn't that great, but it does prevent serious spots. I'm personally looking for something that genuinely clears up skin, rather than just prevents horrendous acne.
