Cervical swab - worried about results

I went to the family planning clinic today to get my usual depo-provera injection. I mentioned to the doctor that after 10 months of the injection, I am still experiencing daily bleeding (dark-brownish discharge with some blood). She then advised I come back next week for a cervical swab, as I should not still be experiencing bleeding after 10 months.

I am now very worried, I don't want to tell my mum but I am petrified of the results. The only person I want to tell is my boyfriend next week when I see him, until then I just have to prepare myself for the swab test. The test itself doesn't bother me, its the results I am dreading. I am really worried about this incase I have an STI or disease, to me its looks like my womb lining is just shedding everyday but it could be anything. I'm so worried that it could be anything, in fact its getting to me more than I thought :frown:

aww hun, just reading your post I feel so sorry for you. daily bleeding must be a horrible experience. just try and keep positive. don't think of the worst things that it could be. it could just be your womb lining shedding everyday like you said. i know that in itself isn't great, but at least it's not a disease or anything. remember, doctors are there to help you. if it is anything more serious, i'm sure they'll be able to help you. keep smiling and think happy thoughts.

it could be something as simple as an infection... or maybe your just not suited to having the injection? Its not the same thing but I know someone who had the implant thingymabob and was bleeding for a full 7 months before she just had it taken out

It's easy to start assuming the worst thing imaginable, but some people do have different reactions to different contraceptives than others, you didn't think you had an sti until this swab did you?-so you've obviously never engaged in any particularly risky behaviour. It's probably just that this form of contraceptive isn't for you and nothing sinister. Just wait for your results and try not to worry too much, try to keep busy to avoid thinking about the worst case scenario.

I've only ever had one sexual partner and I've not been having any other symptoms, I thought of it as an inconvenience more than anything really. I left the clinic feeling ok but it was only tonight when I thought about it that it upset me a bit. I'm going to try and relax but I don't know how long the results will take.

Oh, don't worry about it. I used to get the injection and had daily bleeding for 6 months. When i went to the doctor he gave me tablets to stop the bleeding. Didn't even mention a test, just said it was the hormones.

Were you still allowed to keep on with the injection while using the tablets?

At that stage I had already stopped taking the injection, it wasn't worth the constant bleeding and i was putting on weight too :s-smilie:
