ACL reconstruction for those of you who took it

Hey well here it goes

i had an acl injury (100% cut)from football back in september where i had orthoscopic surgery to clean the thing from bone shatters etc and had minor injuries here and there and a meniscus injury
everything healed after that surgery but the acl itself ofcourse doesnt grow again and so i had reconstruction surgery in mid june. now it has been 2 months and 1 week and i still cant reach full bend actually THAT is my problem i can only reach 110 degree bend comfortably and 140 in physio after pushing etc
i have various pains in my right side of the knee when i bend hard, ofcourse the patella (front center) is where the major pain is when bending

so i was wondering is it normal to only achieve this much bend after such period of time after the surgery and if the minor pains i get are normal i also limp a BIT when it gets tired which i guess is normal

anyways for any of you who did this or know somebody who did please let me know (how did i become like this i was at top form back in september my defence was undefeated 12 games no goals in! )

I had ACL reconstruction (patelar tendon graft) in February. I started walking by myself after 5weeks, firstly limping for a week, but I am sure after 2 months I had regained all range of motion, hell my reconstructed knee actually bends slightly more than the other on heh. Of course I took it slowly and only started high phys activity like jogging month ago, however I do not think your state is ideal. Could be bacause of imperfect surgery, not enough rehab or just bad luck. (I had to do rehab like 5weeks 20-30 min every day, later I ditched it because I could do swimming which is the ultimate rehab).

Nevertheless this is just me talking, go talk to your doctor, you are ment to check up with him monthly or so for half a year anyway.

Edit: I assume you know this, but it will take at least a year for you to get into some condition like you were before the surgery, maybe longer. And your knee will never be the same whatever happens (I get joint cracking, weird movements, need to learn myself how to run again etc.)

I'm sorry, can't be of much help. But I had a problem with my ankle when I was 16 and after physio and walking every day (as you do :p: ) I still can't bend that ankle as far as I can my other one. It takes ages and you might never get back the movement you had before. You really have to listen to your physiotherapist and do the exercises as often as they tell you to do them (and not too much, I damaged my ankle by straining it too much trying to walk again when I shouldn't have).
Make sure you tell your physiotherapist every little detail. They can't guess exactly what you feel when you do an exercise and how far you can bend it all the time. The more you tell them, the better they can treat you.

thank you for replying
maffian i had the patellar graft reconstruction too
i have accepted a long time ago that my knee wont be the same, as to my physiotherapist hes not much of a talker he doesnt explain not that he doesnt know he just doesnt talk that much i go to physio 3 times a week 30 min a session limping is not bad actually its not there unless i overwork my knee the muscles ofcours have shrinked to a third of their original sizes i was just wondering if it took you 3 months since the actual surgery to bend fully

It took me 5 weeks to regain full range of motion max, in 3 months I grew my muscles back and was pretty much 90% fit condition-vise (but still careful not to do anything that could be risky as it takes 6 months for it to fully attach). I would suggest you do some research on internet about after surgery rehab, there are cool things there if you look at many sources.

Actually this happened to me in China and using Internet only I diagnosed myself, made my mind about what surgery I want, planned trip to Czech Republic and started with pre-surgery exercises all this prior to going to proper doctor for the first time after my accident. Being your own doctor was never easier.

Good Luck and PM me if you need to for whatever reason. I still prob have the pages stored somewhere.
