Abstract Reasoning in the UKCAT..... I suck

Probably means I have a low IQ or something, but I'm over it.

In the practice test this seems to have been my downfall (7/15), having done alright in the other 3 sections. Although my Decision Analysis was probably second worst (7/11).

Verbal reasoning - (12/12)
Quantitative reasoning - (9/12)... maybe could use some work also.

Is there any way to improve on these sections? :tsr2:

Try googling for some practice tests! Once you get the knack of it, you'll be fine. Unfortunately, the real thing is a lot harder than the practice, but at least it's multiple choice and there's no negative marking! The only other thing I can recommend is gettin the UKCAT book which goes through the rationale behind each section.

I heard all the books/tutoring was just a waste of money... I'll try looking for more practices though!

It's like an IQ test, you're either good at the sections or you're not. practicing is only gonna make you feel better about the exam, so it is a plus, but it can't make you "better" at the questions per se.

When I did it I sucked at AR, but it is multiple choice, so you'll always have a chance at getting the right answer.

One word of advice though, spending too long on one question is a serious mistake... as I found out on the QR...

im usually quite quick off the mark with my numbers but the QR section completely threw my brain.

Hey I did the UKCAT last year and got 710 in the abstract reasoning. I was pretty rubbish when i started the practice tests, but i got the UKCAT book and it helped alot. Basically to work out the next shape you need to look for the pattern, its mostly one of the following:

The Number of symbols or shapes
The size of the shape (small to large etc)
Rotation clockwise or anti-clockwise
If the lines are curved, straight, dotted etc
The number or type of angles/points/edges
Shapes that can be drawn without removing the pen from the paper
Regular/irregular shapes

Try and use these pointers to identify the pattern linking the shapes in Set A and Set B. Hope this helps, if you want anymore help you can PM me
Good Luck
