Stomach problems

Right, before anyone tells me to go see a doctor, it's not entirely possible at the moment, so I'm just looking for a bit of advice.

My stomach has been really sore feeling lately - by stomach I mean actual stomach, like below ribs, not belly. It hurts most days, and leaves me feeling sick a lot of the time too.

It's really starting to do my head in now...can't figure it out. Any ideas?

personally i don't know what's wrong with you, from the very vague symptoms you described, but why don't you google 'symptoms: stomach pain' see what comes up.

sounds a bit like what i had... constant, indigestion-like pains? hurting after meals? does it get worse when you lie down?

If so it might be gastritis, acid building up in the stomach.. try removing all citrus, dairy, coffee, chilies, chocolate and alcohol for a few weeks and see if it makes a difference.

Try the nhs website.. and possibly taking some painkillers for the time being

Reply 4

take paracetamol, NOT ibuprofen or aspirin... if it gastritis, a stomach ulcer, or anything like that.. they'll make it 10x worse.

Reply 5

What type of pain is it? Muscular? Stabbing? Burning? Also, does it hurt more when you poke it? Or after you eat? Have you done, or eaten, anything unusual lately?

Reply 6

Not muscular...dunno can't really describe it. Just generally sore. Hurts if I push on it a bit, makes me feel more nauseated. After I eat is a problem too. Nope nothing unusual eaten.

does sound alot like i had... seriously try cutting out the things i mentioned above, it may solve the problem completely.

have you been under alot of stress? if so id get checked out for an ulcer..

Reply 8

I think you can actually buy over the counter medication for gastritis now I believe so you could ask your pharmacist.

Yeah I think it sounds like that too.. I have been overdoing it on the old dairy and alcohol and I think that can cause it. Cheers

I don't think dairy would have anything to do with it, alcohol certainly. I'd cut it all out, as well as anything too acidic to give your stomach a break: fruit, raw onion, juice, salad dressing, etc. You probably will need medication to get rid of it, so I'd go to your GP as soon as it is possible- untreated you can develop ulcers which are much worse.

Oh god.

Ugh. I don't know what to do - I move to Germany on Thursday and can't get an appointment at my doctors here before then. What else can I do? Don't really want to leave it till I go to Germany...

Ok chill! It might not be gastritis and it might not get worse, I'm not a doctor, I've just had it before so I'm trying to advise, you certainly shouldn't take my word as gospel.

I'd try the pharmacist in the first instance, explain the symptoms and they can give you appropriate medication to relieve it, I think you can get PPIs from pharmacists now which would be ideal, or if they think it's cramping rather than something gastritis-like then they can give you an anti-spasmodic.

Why can't you get a doctors appointment- do they not leave 'emergency' spots open that you can ring up for on the day? Other than that I don't know, unless you have a walk-in clinic near you.

Meep. I'll try ringing again on Monday. Cheers x

so some vague dull ache pains.
take some gaviscon, if that helps the pain then your problem is solved and you don't need a doctor. If that doesn't help the pain then its probably something else.

If it doesn't bother you enough to make a trip to the doctors then don't bother.

Err cheers.

It DOES bother me enough to go to doctors, I just said I couldn't get an appointment, jeez.

Had a sleepless night as everytime I laid down it just made me feel even more sick.

you need to see a doctor, so they can perscribe some proper strong stuff (probably Lansoprazole, which completely stops your stomach from making acid)
best stuff over the counter is certainly gaviscon.. make sure you take a fair enough amount of it, especially before bed.

Dairy can cause digestion problems.. often requires a higher acid concentration, even though its not acidy itself. And dont avoid all fruits, thats silly... citrus are the main ones really.

get well soon.. i know its a horrible pain :frown:

Lansoprazole? So you would advocate a life long treatment involving a pill to play around with the chemical output of your very cells when some simple gaviscon anti-indigestion treatment would work just as well?

This isn't urgent. Gaviscon will undoubtably settle it, and the only thing that might be needed is a trip to the docs at some point, and a simple test performing to look at a certain bacteria that sometimes lives in the stomach and causes problems. 1 simple course of treatment and its eradicated forever.
But you can get that done in germany - probably easier than here actually.

I've had gaviscon and it's had no effect. I'm becoming doubled over with how sore my stomach is and it's making me cry I feel that nauseated.
