I've heard that 1st year does not count towards your degree and that you just have to pass it to be let into 2nd year.

it varies dependant on degree. I actually think its better if the first year counts towards something because is the easiest out of the three years, and it does really make much of a difference if u get 70% for the year or 50%, because in the long run the differnece is only 2% to ur final degree.

English is 10, 30, 60.

Yes you are right people...in subjects such as Computer Science and Economics 10% of the first yr does count. In law though, it counts for nothing and u only need to pass it to be thru the next yr. But however, how high u get can be an indication as to how likely u are to get an internship in the 2nd year.
