I've been writing songs (however rubbish) for a while and wondered if anyone knew of any good software for the PC to record your music and vocals ie to make a demo etc. Either using virtual instruments or recording guitars etc direct. Anyone with any experience of the best options - help would be appreciated! Cheers.

I've used both cubase and emagic logic audio in the past and they're both really good, though now logic is mac only, what you might need to consider is your soundcard becasue thats what really makes the difference when recording, if ur gonna spend a bit i'd get cubase, or i havent used it, but cakewalk's range of products is ment to be good. If you need free vst instruments go here http://www.kvr-vst.com/. And if you wanna buy stuff go here http://www.turnkey.co.uk and they have a huge shop on charing cross road in london

I use Sonar 3 myself, which is by Cakewalk, and have used it both for direct recording, and virtual instruments via midi, and for direct scoring. It can use both Dxi and VST plugins and virtual instruments. http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/new.asp

I use B4 as well with sonar, tis a very nice hammond organ. Another good instrument is The Grand, sounds lovely. Never used virtual guitarist, as i play guitar so never had a need for it.
