What universities would you recommend?

I am currently studying BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business and my predicted grade is D*D*D.

My GCSE's aren't brilliant, 7 or 8C grades, including maths, english, science and additional science.

I am stuck at the minute, I know I would like to study some form of Management or Business Management at uni, but don't know what unis to apply for. Time is ticking and my tutor wants all to be finished by the end of term on the 16th of this month.

I have been to open days and looked at uni rankings, so far I am thinking, York, Hull and Northumbria. But defo York and Hull. But I don't really know who else to apply for. I prefer city campus, the ones I've been considering are Aston, University of Liverpool, University of Leicester and Heriot-Watt.

I originally considered Surrey, UCL and Kent, but seeing how far away they are, how expensive those areas are not to go for them.

What universities would you suggest I choose and apply for? and why?
It's all very well your tutor wanting you to be finished by the 16th, but you should not rush your application - you have until mid-January to apply, I suggest you take a few weeks to do some proper research. If distance is an issue then work out how far away you're willing to move, look on a map and make a list of all the universities in that area. Then check the websites of the universities on your list and ask yourself these 5 questions:

1. Does it have the right course?
2. Do you meet the entry requirements?
3. Do the modules of the degree interest you?
4. Do you like the university location?
5. Can you afford the accommodation?

I've been considering all them, UCL being in London would be unaffordable, Surrey would too so that's them off the list. The locations and the price of accommodation and living costs are the only problem for me. Then I've been considering ones in cheap areas which are 30s ranked unis like Leicester, Aston, Heriot Watt and Liverpool. UCL and Surrey are much more prestigious (and the course at Surrey REALLY interests me more than the other places to be honest) but it's so expensive there to live... don't know what I should do.

I'd also love to be able to apply for UCL, I'd love the location being in London. But it's just too expensive there.

First year halls have a variety of price bands. Some at Surrey look on a par with Leicester
Surrey: https://www.surrey.ac.uk/sites/default/files/Accommodation_Tariff_16-17.pdf
Leicester: http://www2.le.ac.uk/offices/accommodation/documents-1/10314OadbyPriceList201617final2.pdf

And if you are sharing the costs in subsequent years they can come down significantly
Guildford (Surrey) : http://www.rightmove.co.uk/student-accommodation/Guildford.html

WOW there are some decent costs there thank you  I had been panicking about how they say that Guilford is an expensive area, but those prices were decent, thank you

Your welcome. Always best to do your own research and not rely on hearsay
Hi there!

Have you considered Staffordshire University at all?

We have a really great Business School (I graduated from it myself) and we are a really friendly city based university on a newly renovated campus.

Don't worry if Staffs isn't for you though. We would still be more than happy to help yo with your application no matter which university you opt for. Feel free to make use of our application advice, personal statement checker and more here - http://www.staffs.ac.uk/helping-hand/

Best of luck!

Sam :h:
