The Theory of Everything - 9/10

A great biographical film about one of the greatest (astro-)physicist ever lived on earth. An oscar awarded Eddie Redmayne as Stephen Hawking gives the spectators a good lesson in love, will to live and physics.

I really love that film too.

'Tis indeed!
Johnny English reborn (no I don’t care it’s 9 years old)

Very funny film. Obvious ambrose was going to be the villain but that stands with a lot of spy films (the the possible exception of you only live twice) still a great romp and fun watch.

I love all three of the Johnny English films. If you're having a bad day, they will make you smile.

I need to watch the 3rd one at some point. 🙂
Going through the Bond films now in no particlaur order.

Live and let die

One of my favourite of the series after diamonds was a bit meh.

A good film overall with a nice fresh plot away from blofeld and spectre, the twist of Mr big being Kananga was obvious and his death at the end is downright dumb. But this doesn’t ruin the film too much. High points were henchmen Tee Hee and Baron Samedi (although I’d prefer a better fight between bond and Samedi)

Solitaire was an interesting character but with some plot holes (when she went back with the villains at New Orleans) but overall she was great.

Roger Moore hasn’t grown into the role yet, his best scene being when he first met solataire and the scenes with Tee Hee (who was a main highlight with Samedi)

Some good stunts and action as well. The boat chase went on for a while and I felt the bus chase wa s better, the crocodile stunt was brilliant

the Roger Moore bond films were all very campy  Moonraker in particular was shocking! But I definitely think Moore made the right choice not to try to emulate Sean Connery who he could never compete with

David Byrne's American Utopia- as good as his 1985 film Stop Making Sense, and Spike Lee's direction is excellent.

Indeed. Some got thr balance very well (Live and Let die, Spy who loved me) while others were a bit too campy.
From Russia with love.

Connery’s 2nd outing as bond and in my opinion one of the better in the series. This was rather faithful to the novel (apart from the villains being Spectre) and felt like a spy thriller compared to later installments (the following one another through istansbul etc)

Thr plan is very simple compared to Dr No and is presented well, very early on we are introduced to our villains (Kronsteen,Grant, number 1 and Klebb) what their plan and motivation is. The revenge for the killing of Dr No is a nice bit of continuity in the series.

The film however is not perfect. Kronsteen, while incredibly good and creepy seems a bit of a pointless character as his role is to relay the plan (which klebb then carries out) and the next time we see him he’s being killed by Morenzy, (interestingly Morenzy is played by Walter Gotell who would play Gen Gogol in many films) The Scene at the gypsy camp was also a bit pointless.

These gripes aside it was a strong film, Kerim Bay is a very likeable ally and gets stuff done with bond. The highlight of the film is Robert Shaw’s Red Grant, a real rival to bond. The fight between him and Connery on the train is my favourite scene in the film.

Tatiana Romava is an interesting and decent character who plays the role she’s cast in well, nkt much else more to say about her. Klebb has a scary presence (second only to number 1) and is a genuine threat through her use of Grant. Her death at the end is ok but is more used as symbolism for the character development of Tatiana.

The Two Popes - 8/10
I actually really enjoyed this. It was a great insight into the Catholic Church and specifically into the ideas and background of the current Pope Francis.

Black Narcissus (the 1947 original) - 3.5 stars. Amazing cinematography.

Is about horny nuns.

Devil - 7/10.
Good twist, gets straight into it, but also kind of empty. Not much depth to it.
