Yesterday I watched:

The Martian - 8/10
Was not expecting this to be this good. After watching the abysmal Red Planet last week (which I gave a 3/10) this film has gave me hope for future Mars films. A refreshing sci-fi film that has a lot of science and is explained so concisely with both knowledgeable and impactful dialogue in coherence with the plot but does not also dumb it down and treat the audience as idiots like Interstellar did. A lot of the weight and urgency of situations comes from a key understanding of the physics at play, and
this film knows we're not all astrophysicists, chemists or botanists but it also knows we're not idiots. It might seem like a little thing to praise, but it lifts up the film a lot as a sci-fi film and gives it that much more gravity (no pun intended)
Acting from Matt Damon was really good, giving off a charismatic and slightly cocky performance in the films brilliant upbeat moments but also playing it serious when it comes to the tense situations. The characters at NASA were all really good and oddly more interesting than the rest of the Damon's space crew. That's what happens when you have Sean Bean and Chiwetel Ejiofor as minor characters
The directing is fantastic expect no less from Ridley Scott. Some really interesting cinematography and camerawork here. I really liked the arc-pans used frequently through out the film.
The effects team did a great job here as well, everything feels and looks so real.
Overall a well made and entertaining film from start to finish

Today I watched:

Over The Hedge - 7.5/10
A little guilty pleasure of mine. A good animated family fun film. Amazing casting and voice acting (I especially love Omid Djalili as the Persian cat  ) The animation has aged a bit considering its 2006 but its fine to me. A pretty unique and fun soundtrack from Ben Folds. Some hilarious jokes and references for adults in there as well  One of dreamworks best imo

Silent Hill - 6/10 One of the few decent films based off a video game! Ive never played the games so I cannot judge its accuracy but it was overall decent. One of the major downsides for me was the lack of practical effects especially because the sets were so fantastic but then you've got this silly plodding-around CGI Pyramidhead who should be absolutely terrifying and instead you can tell the actors aren't really looking at anything. I suppose practical effects on this scale would be really hard to pull off plus the budget wasn't big. It's also very atmospheric and slow which tend to be a bit of a hit-and-miss for me! The soundtrack really complements the slow parts of the movie however, a really good memorable theme.

If you haven't already seen them, other decent films based on games I recommend are Mortal Kombat (1995), Final Fantasy: Advent Children, Street Fighter Assassins Fist.

Thanks for the recommendations  I've seen final fantasy The spirits within and was not a fan. Advent children is better?

The Cornetto Trilogy

Strictly not a trilogy in traditional sense and the third film even though it's still good, pales in comparison to Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz (Hot Fuzz being one of the only films I'd give a 10/10)

Yeah I don't consider it a true trilogy and even if it was then I think film #3 is weak enough to discount it from the best of the century, but it's a good shout :yep:

La La Land
4/10

Cliffhanger (1993)-7/10
Very cheesy but a ton of fun. There's quite a few flaws in the plot and acting but there's some great, suspenseful action scenes

JCVD (2008)-10/10
This film has become my favourite film ever! I don't think I've ever been so amazed by a motion picture. Go see it, but make sure you watch the original French dub.

The Disaster Artist - 9/10

Brilliant film, not laughed at a film like that in quite a while.

Felt like i was in a Cinema located in America though with the amount of wooping and clapping at the end..

Havent watched a film in ages. Last time was when I was in hospital in October. The 19th to be precise. (Know this as was my second night on the private ward). Couldnt watch films really on the normal ward as didn't have headphones for the bedside TV. Private ward had own room so was fine.

Passengers - 8/10

The films were on a loop so didnt have much choice :frown:

Emelie. 8/10. Creepiest film I have seen for a while.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High 8/10

Army of Darkness 7/10

Super Eight 7/10

Reply 778

The Night Before
7/10
Justice League 7/10

The successor of Batman vs. Superman is the way better. Nonetheless there were better DC/marvel comics I watched in the cinema and in free TV. It is a good standard. I would love to watch a serious DC/marvel film again.
