Pulling Out Of A House

Hey Guys, Basically Me n My friends, lets say A, B and C were all looking for a house together to live in for University in our second year. We all get on well but me and C get on the best and are really quite close. She's like my best friend at university. Nehoo, C's parents decided to buy a 4 bedroom house..So we were all like great:smile: dont have to bother looking for a house. However, shes kept us hanging on about rent and contract length, so we were all sligtly annoyed. However today she dropped a bombshell on us, We are basically expected to pay £90 pwk with a 12 month contract including no bills. This is almost extortion, especially as rental prices in this area is approx. £75 pwk, and I know that C's parents arent willing to come down in price. The other girls, A and B are really annoyed and cant really afford it, (neither can i)! And so we've decided (A,B and me) to try and find a house with just the 3 of us today and have already lined up some appointments, however i don't know how things are going to be between me and C and how to tell her we arent interested at paying that rate. Thanks guys!

The three of you together just need to meet up an tell her straight... while (presumably?) your all still cool with moving in with her, theres just no way you can pay £90 p/w, so she can either go with u guys into a house u all can afford, get her parents to drop the rent, or move into seperate houses. If she's your mate an your straight with her shes no reason to get annoyed, u wont have done anythin wrong.

Tell 'C' the truth and tell them that it's not working out, it's too expensive. Halls aren't even that expensive

If you two are as close as you say you are, then hopefully she'll understand

Tell her asap... that is a huge amount of money considering what most people pay for student houses

The three of you guys need to collectively tell her that as much as you would enjoy living together with her, it's quite expensive. There's no way around it. Just tell her and asap.

They often are, or more...

That's steep. I pay like 60/week including bills and this is in central Edinburgh.

Erm, yes it's really not that much. In central London, self-catered halls tend to go for about 115 pounds a week. But it's not just London - I know that Edinburgh has many halls around 130-140 pounds a week, and St. Andrews has halls that are 170 a week. I'm sure almost every uni has at least one hall that is over 90 pounds a week...

Wow! The most expensive halls at my uni are between £70/£80 a week depending on whether you want a luxury room or not!

If its a REALLY nice house (and it might be if someone's parents are buying it), and its in a good area, I might just stretch to that, especially as its detached. I pay close to that figure where I live and our house is pretty scummy (but we love it).

Hmm I wouldnt want to move into a house if one of my mates parents owned it anyway... would feel bad if I left a light on or broke/scratched anything in it :s-smilie:
