I've heard and read that if you'd like to be in the nice old accomodation ee St Regulus, St Salvators, University Hall etc

That you'll probably have to share for first year.

Does this mean that we would get a huge room?

I really want one with turrets lol

Does any have an experience of sharing? Do people generally get along?

Not strictly true - I was in Regs first year, didn't share. They ask you whether you would mind on your application form and some personality questions. So if you really don't want to I don't think they would ask you.

Shared rooms are much larger yes. I had some friends who shared - the general experience was good even if the people sharing had different friend circles.

Whether you get one with Turrets is pure luck - in your second year they let you specify a room if you want. My last 3 years were spent in a turret in Uni Hall Bare in mind that these rooms are a bit larger and are definitely colder than non-turret rooms.
