This is my field of expertise.

I am (hopefully) intending to apply to...

Warwick - Politics with International Studies (realistic first choice)
Sussex - International Relations with...something (realistic second choice)
Sheffield - International Relations and Poltiics
    Exeter - International Relations

    And 2 others

    Other good courses are at...

    Abyrytstwythythsythsywthywtyth (Wales)
    London School of Economics
    St. Andrews (Scotland, MA only)
    Edinburgh (Scotland, MA only)
    Keele
    SOAS

Try reading 'The Globalisation of World Politics' by Baylis and Smith - it's big but it gives you a real taste for the subject matter

Don't do what I did, and start with "I am interested in studying Politics at University..." How lame is that?

That first sentence is the hardest thing to write though. You can either go for the old 'I am interested', 'My passion for x', or you can try to be off the wall and end up sounding like a fool. You can't win!

sheffield has a great department, Oxford has whats recognised as probably the best department in the whole of europe and a contender for world domination. Cambridge is not so great, but the mphil in IR is considered one of the best and most respected around. Aber is also quite highly respected, but mostly for IR and its rather postmodern departmental culture.
    hope this helps.
