Im 17 and I like a girl who is only 13. We both know each other well and she is very mature for her age. Around my school everyone bands around the phrase "2 year rule". Just wanted to know what the general opinion is??

well its down to the individual really, some gaps work better than others. so i dont really think of a set value.
although i do think 13 is abit young to be honest

People will generally say - if you think its right, go for it.

But otherwise, 17/13 is too young...

13 sounds a bit too young, to be honest. Unless she's a real exception, no matter how mature she is, it just wouldn't be enough.

I know if a guy at my school did that, he'd be named a paedophile, even if it's only joking.

I think it's too much of a difference. Obviously, when you're older a 4 year age gap doesn't seem so big, but when you're younger there does seem a massive difference. My boyfriend is 17, and my sister is 13, so the idea of one of my boyfriends friends going out with one of my sisters friends just seems crazy, as they're way too young. You say she's mature, so obviously that's good, and if you really like her then go for it, but just be aware of what other people will think, and make sure you can handle it.

Well like people said before, it really depends on the person. I'd say its not bad if she's mature. My ex was 14 (i',m 17) and she was maturer than a lot of my friends who were 17. You have to consider the fact you may get some hastle from other people about the age difference and whether you could handle it. Luckily i didnt get too much hastle since people knew im a nice guy and im not trying to take advantage of anyone. If you have some good friends it wont be bad really. Its up to you bud. Also, if you decide to give it a go, meet her parents early on. I met her parents before i met her, it was pretty scary at the time haha.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

    P.S. 13 is yr9 i think.

Hmm I think if you were both 10 years older then no one would bat an eye but I do think at that age then it is a bit of a big gap!

It's probably more like 17/15 really given that girls have a bit of a jumps start at least physically. But 17-13 is liable to raise a few eyebrows none the less. She's still 13 mentally no matter how mature she seems.

I am goin out wif a girl whos 2 years younger than me. i'm 16. at first i fought that was too much of a gap but it aint too bad. but yours i do think its a bit much. you will get alot of funny looks from people. but if you reali like each other go for it or just stay friends n see if anything happens in a few years when the gap does no seem as big.

She may show she is all mature but is she emotionally mature? I am not so sure. Legally you can't sleep with her for another 3 years, but obviously this doesn't stop a lot of people but sleeping with a 13 year old would just be so wrong.

It's fine so long as you'll be happy spending your dates eating happy meals and watching CBBC before indulging in a spot of finger painting.

You realise a 13 year old probably still fantasises about boybands yeah?

Sorry, I'm usually a liberal chap, but 13 is too young. You're 90% adult at your age, she's about 30%

Once you're both past the age of consent, age really only matters to other people. However, before that you have to question how likely she is to be properly mature. Where you when you were 13? I sure wasn't.

When I was 13 I spent most of my time collecting Pokemon cards and climbing trees! I couldn't have even had a decent relationship with a boy my own age, let alone one 4 years older than me.

When I was 12, 13, I went out with a 17 year old guy and he felt "old" to me. It didn't really work out. Today, looking back, it's far too wide a gap. I personally think 13 is too young for a boyfriend anyway but I guess most people were dating at like...5.
