The Student Room Group

#MuslimLikeUs on the BBC.

BBC doing a good job at reinforcing Muslim stereotypes.

That guy Abdul Haqq is a Daesh supporter with strong links to Arjem Choudary.

Can't believe anyone thinks it's a good program. I think the second episode is on tonight.

I cringed and didn't watch anything after the first couple minutes.

Just started watching this

Bless the first girl. She was sat there like "This Haqq guy is insane..."

If nothing else, great comedy. Like Big Brother, but more British

Yeah Mehreen!

It's a little annoying on how BBC insists on holding your hand through the beginning (is there really anyone in the UK who doesn't know what a Hadith is? Or what salam alaikum means?)
Lmao I was just watching it right now

tbh you'd be surprised a lot wouldn't have a clue what a Hadith was. After all there's enough people who mistake all Sikh's for Muslims due to wearing a turban.

This seems more like a program you'd get on Channel 5 either side of "Pimp my benefits mobile" and "On the dole in Derby"
"Muslims Like Us: BBC documentary gets mixed reviews"

That Abdul guy. Fr.
FFS in the Daily Mail is telling you the show is a cheap game to get Muslims at each others throats you have serious issues.

There's actually loads of people who don't know, from my experience.

Or what salam alaikum means?)

I don't know that one and my mates seem to see me as some sort of mastermind theologian, so I'm going to say there's plenty of people who don't know that either.

Never spoken to any proper northern people, have you?

Lol, dw. A lot of people don't know what a Hadith is.

I think the programme was good... it took away from the idea of every Muslim supposedly acting like Abdul Haq (i.e. the stereotypical view many Brits would have, if all the info they ever hear about us is via media)

What I didn't like: How my faith is being played around with- I just find it really derogatory. It would perhaps be a bit funnier if this was a series, e.g. Hindus Like Us or Jews Like Us, etc.

Other than that, I find it fun to watch. Can't wait to watch the next episode.

Admittedly, no. I've just been sat in my London bubble for the past 20 years :frown:

Point taken. Point sorely taken.

100% true about the channel 5 bit though

Also out of interest - out of all the residents, Haqq is the only guy that can back up his viewpoint with direct scripture. Does that mean he's the only person following Islam correctly or am I missing something?

And I guarantee that there are tens of millions of people in the UK who don't.
