Right, basically at the end of month 11 of my 12 month contract, and I didn't want to carry on paying the DD so I called up CPW to give them 30 days notice and they told me that if they cancelled my contract they get a fine from O2, so they'd credit my account with £300 if I stayed with them, meaning I won't be charged at all next year(and i'm not tied in to a long contract). Why would they do this? I'm not complaining, i'm very happy, but wow they'd have to get a pretty hefty fine to offer me this right? Weird.

is it one of those "cash-back" schemes where you actually pay £30 a month and then every couple of months you send them a bill and they refund you the money meaning you pay "nothing"?

No, that was the contract I was on and I was cancelling. I will get the phone next year without having to pay them anything, at all.

they do it hoping you'll go over your minutes or texts, or call numbers not included in the tarriff.

I work for cpw, and i'm guessing your with o2? They have some crazy retention deals, will do anything to keep the customer on. It's not cashback, just a good deal.

make sure it isn't cashback, cashback is the bane of my life at the moment.

(if you've heard of mobile connections/dial a mobile too or a customer of theirs-ot'll be the bane of yours too)

basically they offered CRAZY cashback deals to get people on contracts, one guy bought 4 handsets on cnotract because it was so attractive. and then they went bust and the guy did a runner, and the customers are still tied in to their contracts with ridicolously high bills

When I signed up with Vodaphone for 18 months they gave me £70 in cash just if I signed the paper. I walked out with £300 mobile phone, £70 cash and a contract which would wipe a fortune of my telecommunications bills.

It was the best deal I've ever done.
