Am I now my own legal guardian at school?

I turned 18 back in October and I was just wondering if I am now my own legal guardian at school? In every other area of my life I can do what I want (within the law) but when I ask my regi and guidance teachers about writing absence notes (I have about 99% attendance anyway) they said they didn't know but they would encourage my parents to stay in contact with the school. I had an absence on Monday but my parents are on holiday and I won't be able to hand in a note until after the Christmas holidays i.e. leaving an unauthorised absence on my record while universities may be making inquiries into this, so, can I, in the eyes of the law seeing as I am recognised as an adult, write my own absence notes?
