The car has started to make a slight conk over pot holes and the MOT has an adivisory that the front wishbone bushes are warn. Is this is a major job? I budgeted £150 for this when I bought the car but I was going to wait till it started to conk before having it done.

I the wishbone and shock absorbers can still be used?

IIRC its just the little rubber bush that needs replacing (assuming it is just the bushes) and this is AFAIK a simple, relatively cheap job.

Changing bushes is a relitively straight forward job. You might need to use specialist tools such as a G clamp if fitting them on the car. Although you can use a Vice if you take the whole wishbone off the car.

Getting the old bushes out will be the first challenge. If they do not disintegrate then try using MR. Blowlamp to get the buggers out.
If they are metalastic bushes you may find that the outer band may need cutting with a hacksaw or a dremmel in order to get the new bush in.

The wishbone is reusable and the "shocks" (correct name is dampers) will be fine to re-use so long as they are not weeping oil. You may as well change the bushes holding those onto the front suspension since you will have it apart anyway.

£150 will be more than enough for a few rubber bushes if you are doing it yourself.

Its nto generally a complex job, just a big pain in the arse. Bushes can be very stubborn.

Won't be doing it myself Knowing my luck the wheels will fall off :p:. Parts are very cheap, labour is £20 an hour so I guess what I am really asking is how long will it take a mechanic?

I will get this done in a month or so providing it doesn't get any worse . If the wishbone's need to come out I am guessing its a good idea to replace these too as they are dirt cheap on the Fiesta and they do sometimes snap.

Well... it took me a weekend to completely rebuild my front suspension... Although I have to admit some 30 cans of lager were consumed that weekend and I was doing a damn sight more than just changing bushes so not really a very good indicator!!!

Realistically? i'd say 3 hours would be plenty including dicking about time.

The last bush that I needed to change needed a little persuasion from Mr. Turboflame.
