What should my referee write in the reference?
Hey, I've been out of education for five years so I was not able to get a reference from my old college, so I've had to ask my boss at work, but she doesn't really know me that well and doesn't know what to write.
I've given her details of my A-Level results, but I'm not really sure how she can comment on my suitability for my chosen course (English) when my job has nothing to with it (retail/customer service),

Maybe she could comment on things like dedication, organisation skills and communication skills? She might also be able to comment on how excited you are to be applying. There must be lots of relevant soft skills that are applicable. Shame you don't work in a bookstore (presumably)!
