Has anyone else ever bought an audio book to realise that it doesn’t follow the story verbatim and that the twelve letter words have been cut down to four so that a listener of limited vocabulary can understand it?

Why does everything have to be dumbed down today?

Many audio books are abridged, but mainly for brevity's sake. Your best bet is to go to the Library; even the quite *****y Banbury Library has a lot of unabridged audiobooks. Buying them = far too expensive.

As to your other point, it is a worrying factor when things like Big Brother is one of the most popular programs; don't get me wrong, I'm not saying people who watch it are stupid, it's just that everyone markets everything for the lowest common denominator.

It is quite bad isn't it! Let's have Newsnight Review and Question Time 7 nights a week. I know I'd watch it. But then I may just be in a sad intellectual minority
