That isnt poor at all people do worst its within the vast amount of people average 570-620 and as I keep saying ukcat makes up a very small part of an application. Just dont apply to kings or barts as they have cut off scores barts def kings seems that way. soton 2200 is the cut off score which you meet by far and uea last year gave offers without the ukcat because some peoples applications were so strong. Just write an amazing personal statement as these are valued more highly than the ukcat

Thx for the advice "lilac glitter"

Although last year barts did review 2350-2400 after people above 2400 but prob not worth the chance. Look for ones like liverpool what dont take the ukcat and maybe ones like sgul who dont put much emphasis on it and bsms dont either. I know some people have scary scores like 750 how u can do that is beyond me i got 697.5 which im pleased with but on an access course so need something to make me shine lol.
Hope this helps

not everywhere uses the UKCAT like birmingham so apply to a mixture of those who do and those who dont!

Reply 5

590 is a good score.

Are you sure liverpool dont use the ukcat? thanks.

Reply 6

liverpool, bristol, birmingham dont use ukcat, nor bmat.
cambridge, oxford, imperial, ucl use bmat; but not ukcat.

^^ you have to bare in mind however, that the universities that do not have any entrance exams whatsoever are more likely to be even more oversubscribed for medicine than the ones who do the entrance exams.
My UKCAT was appalling, worse than yours in fact, but i still managed to get a place. Fair enough some universities do have a cut off score, but you shouldnt let this worry you. There is still hope yet

That's right, last year the schools which did not subscribe to the UKCAT consortium recieved 25% more applications than those who did. So instead of fighting off 12 people for your place, you are fighting 15!

Yes, but you'll also be likely dealing with the poorer students who need to play the statistics game better I imagine...

or just simply haven't researched medical schools properly - one of my friends who applied last year turned up to a liverpool interview saying that he preferred lectures and disliked PBL. what a ****ing dumbass. i wasn't surprised to see him staring at a rejection from liverpool on ucas track a couple of weeks later.

it isnt a bad score at all, i mean if you think about it, the average is about 600 and that is with people doing medicine and dentistry so 590 is only slightly below average, if u get good grades, the odds are you will get offers.

Reply 12

I got an average of 530 :frown: I had a horrible cold but I guess that isn't an excuse. I was quite disappointed at first but I've convinced myself to stay positive, 590 seems like a good score so just forget about it and hope for the best.

Edit: Oh yeah, a friend of mine got a UKCAT score of 505 and he still gt 4 offers so I think you'll be fine

Reply 13

what did you both fall down on?

Reply 14

If you have got a crappy UKCAT less than 600 then if I were you I would look at Liverpool, Birmingham (If you have more than 7A*) and Bristol. Definately avoid Kings & QMUL, Sheffield, Southampton and Newcastle. However do bare in mind that your application is assessed as a whole. If you have an ace personal statement & reference, plenty of A*s, AAA prediction then I really really really doubt your UKCAT will let you down at MOST places. Newcastle & Sheffield I would avoid at all costs if you have got a UKCAT of <600 seriously!

What did you think you did wrong to get that score.. was you going too slow or guessed too many? Don't worry tho, there are plenty of places that don't weigh the UKCAT very high... plenty do though so avoid them. Durham also weigh it high.

dont worry i got 597.5 and was devestated for a few days. I got in at st georges
