I'm going to be doing Law & Politics....

However, i just wanted to know:

"What are the teachers like?"
"What elements of the course do you like and why?"
"Are you going to qualify as a solicitor or a barristor?"

Do you like Keele? Why?

Hey,
Some of the teachers are reeeeally boring and at 9am lectures it's hard to stay awake. However other lecturers like kathy de gama are awesome as she teaches on our level rather than on a 'ive done law forever' level.
Coursewise i thought it was all pretty good to be honest and havnt had many complaints.
I'm gonna head for solicitor as that's more me than a barristor.
Keele itself is awesome, ive made soooo many new mates there and now over the summer I'm really frustrated as i wanna go back!

I did Law. Kathy de Gama is the best  Most of the lecturers are great, very approachable. Mine even started to remember my name in the final year because I did mooting, and a lot of them were judges.

The modules I liked were Crime and Tort really. I found Public and Land Law very boring, but I think most people find that. I also didn't like Legal Method much.

I'm going to qualify as a solicitor. First Training Contract interview on Tuesday (ARGH!)

I loved Keele. I still love it. I now live in Newcastle-under-Lyme and I think its a great area, great University and so on.

Not that many people do mooting. I never heard of it until my 3rd year. I'd totally recommend it though, I had a great time.

Last year they had both a main competition and a speed-mooting. The idea of the speed-mooting was to introduce people who haven't done it before. The problems are a bit easier and the whole thing happens in day, so you don't have to do tonnes of research and stuff.

I remember at the Fresher's Fayre getting accosted by the Bar Society and forced to join, but it was actually really good. I think in order to do mooting and stuff this year you'll have to join the Bar Society anyway. they have a group on Facebook: http://keele.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2261683644 (And I even get a quick mention - Laura Karpinski )

Oh, good luck with the interview, i'm sure you'll amaze them!

I want to do mooting, but don't know if i'll have the courage-so that means i probably end up doing it knowing me lol

I hope i get that lady lecturer you metioned-she seems like my kinda teacher

Kathy does Crime and pretty much anything relating to sexuality. You'll probably have her in first year for Crime seminars.

I totally didn't have the courage for mooting. I just turned up for the fun of it, then nearly pulled out after realising what it actually entailed. Glad I stuck it through to the end though.

Mooting is like mock advocacy. You have a fictional case and are given certain points to argue in relation to it. For example my first one was a scenario in which a woman 'accidentally' killed her husband. I had to argue that she should be convicted of Manslaughter (By Dim Res or Provocation) rather than Murder. You argue your point against another team (2 per team) in front of a judge. For the internal competition the judge is a lecturer and it is usually quite informal. However, if you take part in external ones it is more formal. Judge may be a real judge or a barrister, and you often wear gowns and maybe wigs.

Yeah, i've been reading some criminal law stuff and i really like it (she says unknowing of the looming hours of reading and brain cell milking she is yet to do)...i've been reading cases like that "accidental" manlaughter stuff and all about intention and ALL SORTS...it seems like the best law area to use for mooting...i have alot to learn, but from what i currently understand anyways...

I look forward to seeing people in lectures...i'll be the black girl with hair that looks like dreads-but isn't...just tap me on the shoulder and say HEY, WASSSSSSSAAAAAAAAPPPPP!!!!!!?????
