I've got mocks coming up in the next 2 weeks so I decided to try some past papers however I've gotten stuck on a question and the mark schemes and examiner reports are no help

It should be 9 water molecules because one molecules is formed when the two monosaccharides join together then another 8 when the fatty acids attach
There are 8 letter R's in the diagram representing the attachment of 8 fatty acids - the joining of fatty acids also is a condensation reaction and so a water molecule is release when one fatty acid is added.
So in total there are 9 molecules of water released
