Can you be allergic to peircings?

I love peircings but for some reason they hate me.

ive had to had my bottom ear pierced 4 times
2nd ear piercing ive had to have done 3 times
My belly ive had to have done countless times

This is all because they get infected and swollen or they will be fine and ill take them out for literally 10 seconds and my skin heals over.

I took my belly bar out after having it done for 2 years just for a minute, i tried to put it back it but it wouldnt go but our school was next to town and it was the end of the day so we went to the nearest peircing studio, they were like its healed over im afraid how long you had it out? i was like erm about 15 minutes!? lol n they had to repierce it lol. Now i cant take my belly bar out at all incase it heals over, ive had it done 6 years.
My ears are fine to take out now they dont heal.

I tried having my top ear done 3 times, each time i ended up in hospital having it removed because of how swollen it got.

Yes i tried cleaning it, not cleaning it, salt water, everything. I tried gold, silver, nickel, everything i could find, doesnt help.

Anyone else got this happening? Its so annoying i want so many more piercings.

my belly piercing is exactly the same, think with those piercings its normal for them to heal that quickly, I have to put another bar in just so I can take the one I normally have in out to clean it!
And did you have the top of your ear done with the same gun they use to do the ear lobe? Because apparently alot of places do that when they should use a needle, Ive heard that can cause infection as well. Also, the top of the ear is SO easy to get infected, what with your hair being so close to it an all, its difficult to keep the area totally clean etc and so the air can get to it.
On the other hand you may just have skin thats more prone to infections from piercings!

Infections occur when bacteria is allowed to grow... the only way to get rid of bacteria is by proper cleansing. Most infections occur on piercings that are generally not looked after. Can I ask what your cleansing routine is when you get pierced?

Another issue is the jewellery itself. Allergic reactions to nickel are common, so also can I ask what jewellery you've worn in all your fresh piercings?

Do you tend to fiddle with your piercings? even without noticing?

Do you allow sufficient time for your piercings to heal? Taking jewellery out too soon is one of the biggest mistakes that SO many people make.

Do you get pierced with a gun or a needle and are you going to a professional piercer or a shop like claire's?

I could go on, but I really need to know exactly what you do with a piercing when you get one as it'll really help me try to figure out what's going wrong.

I've been pierced for nearly a decade with over 14 piercings in total and not a single infection occurred, as I am aware of the risks, the routines and the correct care needed.

Oh and to add to my last post, I used to have two belly piercings, one on the bottom and one on the top... my top one fell out when I was asleep, and Ive had it re-pierced 3 times and every single time Ive had it done, its grown out in a matter of 3 months, so now I have this stupid little scar where my top one was, and only my bottom belly piercing is still there. Would get it done again, but the last time I had it done it hurt alot because of the scar tissue.... So yea, unless your piercings actually start to grow out, cos that shows your bodies rejecting them, then I wouldnt worry too much!

Cleansing rountine would be salt water morning and night, and also using the cleaning soap givin when pierced.

Piercing place has tried all the types of jewelery, makes no differnce. The metal i have in now that actually does nothing is cheap ones from claires :s-smilie: lol

Nah never fiddle with piercings, too painful. And yeh i left my belly a whole year before trrying to take it out, same with ears.

Top of ear, never managed to get past a week before having it removed.

Tried gun, needle, everything, my body hates it.

Lol tattoos however love my body, they heal straight off :s-smilie: never had a problem. lol

You could be cleansing too often. You should really only cleanse a piercing when it's crusty. Cleaning it too much will aggravate it, causing symptoms such as pain, swelling and weeping.

I've written about the risks of piercing guns recently in the fashion forum, I suggest you have a read, it may make you think twice about using guns.

Also titanium is biologically innert, which means very very few people react to it so I recommend you swapping to this jewellery.

Do you ever use creams on them? things like savlon or germolene?

My bellybutton piercing heals up in a matter of minutes if I'm not careful. I think it's a pretty common problem with that type of piercing.

lol titanium in the top of my ear cause me to be rushed to hospital a few hours later lol, although my belly is titanium :s-smilie:
And did try creams, didnt really help. Also with the extra cleaning, as ive had it done so many times ive tried not cleaning it, cleaning it once or twice a week, cleaning it once a day, cleaning it more than once a day, none help lol. thanks for your advice though.

right well i wanna get my lip done, do they do this pmfk stuff for lip piercings?

Reply 9

Yeah, like lessthanthree says, creams are a no-go as they harbour bacteria and bad bacteria = infection.

Use TCP, I know they say you shouldn't but I have 5 piercings and never had a prob, arrr

My body's the same, the jewellery in my tragus and snug keeps coming out and they close over within the hour. The tragus is closed too much now, cos it fell out overnight and I didn't realise, so I gotta wait a few months for the scarring to go to get it repierced :frown:
Yeah it's a pain but I think some people are just more prone to it than others. If I get a normal cut it heals a lot faster then most people's do, so I guess it's just your body reacting to it
