I hope you get in too! Are you from England right?? I dontt know whether anyone applying too this department has gotten an offer yet. I'm looking at other departments and offers sent, and it seems like a lot of people have got their offers, and we may have been forgotten! Haha just kidding, I can't even begin to understand the process that the admins have to go through!

Yes I'm from England, whereabouts are you from? I've been looking through the threads and I've seen that quite a lot of international students have gotten offers but not as many English students, but I know they do give out the international offers first so hopefully we haven't been forgotten!! Haha

I am a Biomedical Science graduate, just a word of advise. I would advise you to research on Universities with IBMS accredition.
Also, I the salary for Biomed scientists is minimal and you would need to acquire experience before you can get a job e.g. in the NHS.
You would need many years of experience and further study e.g. masters, to earn £30,000 or more. Starting salary in the NHS is £16,000.
If you are studying it because you love science and biomedicine then, you will be fine, but for job purposes, be wary and heed to my advise.

I would recommend NHS funded degrees because you are more likely to start with better salaries, experience will be built into your degree and
you will be more likely to go higher up the band and pay scale in the NHS, higher than a Biomedical scientist.

TL/DR: Only study Biomed if you don't care about the low salary, competition to get a job and experience required when applying for jobs. Even though, they know as a newly qualified, you would not be able to gain experience except they provide you with a job.

I'm still waiting after having sent off my application on the 13th of October! It's been almost 3 months and i'm getting worried! I have offers from Bristol, Bath and Durham, so fingers crossed I will get one from Edinburgh too as I loved it after a recent visit! I heard that they usually wait until the January UCAS deadline to give out offers to students not living in Scotland, but it's still nerve-wracking to not know! :indiff:

    Hi!
I'm from Scotland but I have an offer for Medical Sciences at Edinburgh. I applied for a deferred entry (2016/17 is my gap year) and got an offer in March 2016. Edinburgh was the last uni to get back to me so i'm sure you will hear back from them soon!

Hi! Thanks so much, that reassures me, i've heard back from most unis now but not Edinburgh as of yet, just out of curiosity what is the difference between medical and biomedical sciences? As I've seen quite a few people apply for medical as well

No problem! I think Edinburgh uni waits until all applications are in first.
From what I've heard, Medical Sciences is broader than Biomedical Sciences. I don't know much about Biomedical Sciences but I went to the Open Day talk about Medical Sciences. In Medical Sciences you do some modules or courses that Biomedical or Biological sciences students do too but there are some modules that are just specific to Medical Sciences. In the Medical Sciences course, you choose elective courses each semester to do too, from a whole list.
You can do a year abroad in the Biomedical Sciences course but not in the Medical Sciences course.
With a degree in Medical Sciences, you can easily go into Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry etc. if you study further.

I applied for Pharmacology and Medical Sciences but I chose Medical Sciences because I didn't want to focus my degree on one topic. I'd rather study a whole range and then specialise in Year 2 or 3.

Great choice! I'm just finishing 4th year of Medical Sciences and I love it here. There aren't many differences between biomed and MedSci, but MedSci has an Anatomy course in the 2nd year where you get to use cadavers (and all biomed students envy us ). Also, the course is much smaller than biomed, but for the first 2-3 years you still get to enjoy ~300 classmates in popular courses like genetics. Good luck!
