So I thought I was pretty good with D1 simulation, however I've been looking at some past papers and am completely stumped by one question.. I've looked at the mark scheme and that was no help, and I can't find any worked solutions for that paper. The paper is D1 OCR MEI 2008 and it's question four part iii (I'm fine with generating the rules, and once I understand part iii, iv and v will be fine too) that i'm stuck on - any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can't believe I'm doing D1 at 2am in the morning, lol.
Anyway; The answer sheet is very vague on how it's represented but... You can see at the top of the table,it says Time Interval | No. of Passengers. and for the simulation number you can see it is actually two sets of numbers, so for simulation number 1, (3,2) is one set where 3 is the time interval and 2 is the number of passengers. So you just go through until you have a total of 5 or more passengers.
So for example 3,
(5, 1) 5 Minutes and we now have 1 passenger.
(2,2) 7 Minutes and now we have 3 passengers in total
(2,1) 9 Minutes and now we have 4 passengers in total
(3,4) 12 Minutes and now we have 8 passengers in total
I stop there because we've exceeded the 5 passengers. The total time is below 15 so he does catch the plane (12 < 15)

I did not realise that each two boxes was an individual time interval and its corresponding number of passengers - I thought all the time intervals were on one side and the number of passengers were on the other.. That's what I get for doing D1 that late at night
