You shouldn't need a CV to apply. Just ask for an application pack at the customer services desk.

What's so funny about filling in a form??

The application form is vital to get an interview as it asks you some questions that you have to select carefully. If you are suitable, they will contact you for an interview. You should also include your CV with the form. If you ring up the tesco store, they might post the form to you or pick one up.

Rarely the case, go and talk to people at Tesco, you'll find the majority have gotten there job through a contact. Rarely do you 'just fill in an application form.'

Thats what I got told my a Tesco recruitment manager. Apparently, if you don't answer these questions, you wont be considered. If you just hand in a CV, they ask you to fill in their form. At the back of the form you have to rate yourself and this determines if you pass through the next stage. I am sure that thos who work at Tesco, would agree with me.

Nowdays, application form is the main source for retailers as they as specific questions that compares answers. Contacts may get you the job, but still ahve to fill in the form.

Why don't you ask them? They could tell you how to fill in the form in the best way.

I think ive given up applying for tesco's. First time, i got a letter back saying my application has been accepted, but unfortunately there was no jobs (funny, there was when i asked for an application form). Never heard any thing back from them after that. Applied again some time later for another vacancy. No reply.

When i handed in a CV, i got a letter thru the post a few days later, containing an application form. Things i hate about them is, half the time my CV contains more info than the application form.

Oh and btw, i was trying to work night shifts, and they still didnt want me

If you're really interested in working in Retail then I would apply, personally I tried applying for Tesco around 4 time's over the space of 2 years and finally got in. It was hell, awful managers wanting more than 100%, overreacting on mistakes and things that weren't my fault etc.

A lot of the staff at Tesco's in my store share the same view. Tesco's isn't all its glamourised to be, my fellow staff are very rude, managers always hassle me. I have decided to apply for a different job because of it, to leave all those problems, but if you do apply try checkouts rather than shop floor, as shop floor is very tiresome but checkouts has its problems too. I have chosen to apply for another retail outlet or an office job/administrative/IT sector job.:s-smilie:

Even my personnel manager took 3 days of my holiday for absolutely no reason from my previous year, 9 months of my life I wish I had worked somewhere else.

what kinda problems have you experienced at checkout apart from the rude customers?

Reply 18

Well the checkouts aren't too bad, but apart from rude customers, are managers that deny leave, managers who hassle you alot, don't let you stand up on the till (yes, stand up). But I suppose apart from leave, thats quite normal, I would consider working at the checkouts, if your a fit, healthy lad try shop floor, but this is if you are REALLY considering retail.

But checkouts otherwise is a good job.

Although some checkout people complain its boring just sitting down all the time, but I would treasure it frankly.

Oh and my main job is shop floor.

The questions are probably the hardest part of the application form, I did it my 4th time, and was absolutely lucky to get in, but i'd say just say what they want to hear on the questions and interview, like i'm this and i'm that, and tesco's is this etc.

^^very valuable advice.
