    Hi,
Was wondering if, in general, uni orchestras and musical groups allow people who aren't professional musicians (or studying to be professional musicians) apply. I'm in sixth form and about to take my grade 8 cello, but I plan to do an entirely different course at uni and would like to continue playing in an orchestra or string ensemble for pleasure.
    Thanks!

    Yes, of course!

Music is not offered by my uni, there are a few musical societies around though.

Thanks so much! I felt super disappointed when I was reading about all these unis that only take music scholars! That's great!

I suspect it may be a case of a difference between ensembles and orchestras that are part of the music dept vs those that are SU or intermural ...
