Maybe take things slower, and use your gut instinct. I had the hardest manoeuvre you can do, the parallel park and I screwed it up from the start. I missed all my markers, so I just adjusted for the mistakes, I managed to park it perfectly.

You should always be checking your mirrors, even if there is no point, once you pass, you can check your mirrors when it's sensible rather than every 2 seconds.

I only check mirrors when I merge lanes and the rear view mirror once in a while to see what is going on. I've got into a habit of checking my blindspot on the passenger side because cyclists think it's a good idea to wait there.

Also when I drive off I don't make any sudden movements for at least a few seconds incase there is a cyclist hiding there. The same when I am on a motorway and I see a motorbike, I maintain my position in my lane just incase they decide to pass close to me.
