I've not got experience of rowing on water (mainly because my nearest club is upwards of 40 mins drive away from home) but I use the rowing machines in the gym regularly 😂😂 and I'm getting quicker. I started off about 6 months ago with a 20 minute 2k time but am now at about 12 minutes for 2k. I kayak and canoe relatively regularly when I'm on camp with my guide unit though.

Rowing machine experience is not quite same as actual rowing on water, though.....
You can try college rowing perhaps. There were a couple of boys in my daughter' club who used to kayak/canoe competitively before they started rowing at the college.

You'd need to eat something beforehand if you don't want to faint during training.....
Hmm I always have breakfast after a 5k run in the mornings. I do always have a glass of water as soon as I wake up tho.

Would you not have breakfast after training tho? I think waking up at around half 5 and then doing a 20 minute run ending up at the boat house would be a nice warm up.
Haha, but then you have to run back after training 😛

I cycle back from rowing atm and live up a hill, sometimes I regret my life choices halfway up lmao

If it was me, I'd probably have a snack before training so I didn't get low blood sugar but then have something more substantial afterwards.

Does anyone know if training for college teams is like every day or what?
I asked Selwyn boat club and they gave me the following response:

No I know it isn't, if my local club was a bit easier for me to get to I would have started a while ago. I'm going to start at college level and see if I can move up later on

Thanks for this - so my understanding would be most days then if you're in the college first team?

I think so yeah, although I'm not sure if they'd do double outings at the weekend to save time. 😊

That being said it is dependent on college of course

I don't see an issue with that. The more exercise the better
