I really hope you get the result you need in August.
Otherwise all these new knowledge you obtained last few days will be wasted.......together with our time answering the questions.
The time spent answering will probably help some of us in one way shape or form, so I wouldnt call it a totally wasted effort.

There will be a lovely shiny Freshers Thread for all these questions on Results Day. Patience will be rewarded. (Some (most) don't like discussing this stuff too early in case it jinks them... )

I was just curious about uni challenge, I'm no way near good enough with general knowledge
Each college holds their competition to choose a team that represents the college.
Then those teams take a part in a regional preliminary along with other universities in the region.
Then whatever a number of teams BBC needs are selected there to go to the final stage of competition that's broadcast on tv.
There might've been another preliminary at the university level before the regional competition to select which colleges are going to the regionals, but can't remember clearly.

    Well, you shouldn't be.
One of your questions was what you can/should do during summer holiday to which physicsmaths answered with very good suggestions and advice.
Maybe you can start utilising the knowledge you obtained.

But seriously, good luck with STEP.
.............And try some elderflower drink before you get there. It's quite nice.

    It's sweet.
It's basically sweetened water that was steeped with elderflower.
    Really not bad.
Don't hate it even before you try it.

Agreed, so unless none of us get in, no time wasted

I'm that paranoid that even though I have this really nice to write with Uni of York pen I refuse to use it just in case.

Yep, Bottlegreen Elderflower Cordial £2.50 in Sainsbury's (get the cordial not the sparkling presse version). You make it quite weak - 10:1 water:cordial...

You have to make the drink? Does it not come bottled?

The presse version is pre-made but it's fizzy (and works out more expensive).

When is an acceptable time before results day to start discussing this stuff, in your opinion?

Honestly, not until the day. I mean sure, important things like visas, or what to do if you miss the offer, or whatever. But not what happens in Freshers, etc.

And some societies try to lure freshers with free pizza too.
Which they're not supposed to do (it's strictly wrapped food only at society stalls) but there we go...
