Started out when they introduced Alpha Clones last year. Joined Mercenary Academy, which is low-sec based, for PVP and learning at the same time Always fun blowing up expensive ships in kitchen sink fleets or cheap-as-chips T1 frigs

It's well worth giving the game a try. There's very few MMORPGs which give you the freedom to do whatever you want to do without having a massive grind (there's some skills to train but that's pretty much it) to go through.

With the combat aspect in general, one of the things I love about Eve is that you've always got a shot in an engagement, so just your sheer presence can change things in a fight. There's also lots of different ways to PVP, be that soloing, gate-camping, joining massive fleets etc.

If you're interested, why not sign up (the free to play "alpha" characters get access to all the core skills and can fly ships up until Cruisers which is the typical standard for fights) and give it a go? The alliance I'm in, Mercenary Academy, is also the training alliance for a well known PVP one known as Mercenary Coalition, so you'd get plenty of guidance and lessons from top-notch people to become an excellent PVPer if you join us. There are also other alliances dedicated to training newbros, like Eve-Uni, Pandemic Horde, Karmafleet and Pancakes (who live nearby to our system and brawl with us often ).

EVE's alright if you enjoy PvP games. It's pretty much dominated by PvP combat, the PvE side of things is (a) very dull and (b) completely neglected by the dev team. For all they talk about a level playing field and building up your own empires and so on, it always ends up coming down to which group of players have the most guns at their disposal. Fine if that's what you enjoy, but overall the game lacks real depth I think, and the community can be outright horrible in some parts.
